Anybody back yet?..:whistling:

Just got back. I acctually thought that we played very well and deserved to take the lead through a brilliant moussa goal. Southampton showed their class though and came back with three good goals. (i didnt see the penalty incident) special mention to the fans who were again amazing at st marys.

Mildenhall - 6 he cant kick
Francis - 7
Baldwin - 6
Mvoto - 6
Herd - 6
O'keefe - 6
Grant - 7
Mccormack - 7
Moussa - 7
Paterson - 7
Crawford - 6

At the final whistle it was clear that some players said their goodbyes to the fans.

Steve Tilson admitted that Southend United's supporters were 'different class' in the club's last game of the season at Southampton.

On the game itself, the Blues chief was disappointed with the goals they gave away in a 3-1 defeat, but having seen them create plenty of chances, was nonetheless happy with the overall performance

"We should have got something out of the game," Steve told Blues Player.

"We were far too nice with the three goals we gave away.

"For the first one, Franck Moussa should stop the ball coming in and on the second goal, Stuart O'Keefe could have cleared it three times.

"And on the third, we should have made a challenge on the edge of our area, but despite that, it was a good performance.

"We had other chances ourselves, but didn't take them; especially Matt Paterson who really should have scored.

Getting boring now Tilly.

"The fans were different class today though and made the club proud."

Well I guess someone has to because the team hasn't been doing a very good job.

I think mccormack was definitely one. just his body language. he threw in most of his belongings in the crowd as well! about three pairs of boots, training top, shirt etc.

I do agree that he will most likely be off, going by his celebration last week alone but he does usually throw a load of his boots and stuff to the kids.

How poor was Paterson! Not only is he awful in front of goal but he is several mental steps behind his colleagues most of the time.

he's young and played very little first team football. let him get a good pre-season behind him and some understanding with the other lads and see how he is then.

I agree that he should have hit the target on a couple of oppurtunites but i thought his work rate was good and linked up well with the midfield to keep possesion.

Poor crawford had to contend with jaidi all game!

So, finally this long and tortuous season is behind us. It has been hard for all of us and the depression seeping around our beloved team and this board has been, well, quite depressing actually. But at least both team and fans made every effort to go out on a high.

I'm not usually one for giving individual player ratings, so why break the habit of a lifetime? But if I'm honest I didn't feel it was that kind of game - I wasn't really paying that much attention to the individual performances, as it was such a nothing game in terms of our season.

But I will mention Mildy, who made some very good saves to keep the score down to just 3 against and the Moose, who worked tirelessly all afternoon. He would probably be my man of the match and scored a great goal to give us all a lift.

What this afternoon was all about for me was the fans showing the world why we're the best in the country. Memories of the equivalent day at St Mary's three years ago still live on, and I knew today wasn't quite going to match that, but even though we had probably just over half the number of fans than for our last game in the Championship we still gave it our all, singing songs and backing the team and totally silencing the rest of St Mary's. The only time the Saints fans started making noise was when they went in front.

But we held our heads up high and despite all the knockbacks, blows and disasters we have suffered this season proved we can take it on the chin, have a laugh and not always take ourselves too seriously. I loved the Que Sera song (Whatever will be, will be, we're going to Shrewsbury) that was belted out with gusto and earned applause from the Saints fans every time we sang it.

The end of the game was more than a little curious. The stadium announcer had managed to annoy everyone in the stadium by reading out a warning that the players would not come back out after the game if there was a "pitch incursion" - annoying because he told us this not once, but four times. So of course, what do you expect but a few Saints fans then took it upon themselves to run onto the pitch at the final whistle. The players then made a beeline for the tunnel leaving just a few Southend players still walking over towards us. Despite being told to go back to the dressing rooms, Macca and Mildy carried on regardless and then proceeded to throw all manner of boots and shirts into the crowd. A signal that that's it, they're done with us now and are off to pastures new?

And then they were gone, and we were left with a full football stadium with a gathering of policemen and stewards all over the pitch. We just carried on singing and then I suddenly looked around me and saw that 23,000 Saints fans in every single corner of the ground were looking straight at us and giving us a standing ovation. I found it a heartwarming, humbling moment, particularly as a resident of this city. Even the officious stadium announcer joined in and congratulated us. Finally we could finish this monstrous season on a high in one way.

And so to the future. So, League Two beckons, with the likes of Cheltenham and Macclesfield. Hardly lifts me with inspiration. I'm not going to spend any time pretending I have the faintest idea who's leaving, if anyone's coming in, what Tilly's going to do, if work on the stadium will start, if we'll get out of our financial mess or not, but there is one thing of which I am certain - I am still a Shrimper and I will still be there at Roots Hall and elsewhere to support whoever is turning out in the Southend colours. I know that because of the fans today, who showed me just why I follow this team.

After our last match at St Mary's I wrote this and I feel exactly the same way again today. Circumstances might not be exactly the same, maybe the future is bleaker than back then, but I can once again say this evening:

Proud to be a football fan. Proud to be a Shrimper.

Southend til I die.

Having given away half a sports shop's amount of football boots, he then started giving his kit away. He took his shirt off last and then just cast it away as if it was rubbish with his back to the crowd and started jogging off.

Hardly the actions of a man who is desperately keen to stay next season.

Crawford is young too but the difference between them was instructive. Age shouldn't come into it anyway. They are either good enough to do a job or they aren't. Speed of thought is so vital now that the game is so much quicker.

You guys are excellent, the fans who traveled down today were all brilliant and it's just a shame there wasn't a better footballing match on show to justify the trip.
"That's why we're going down" when Matt Paterson missed the 1v1 was brilliant.
Best of luck next season and I hope you get promoted, but I bloody hope we won't be there to greet you.

Thanks a lot mate, and I think you are going to run away with the title next year.

Good luck to you.

Would be nice, but even within 2 hours of the season finishing there's already strong rumors about Pardew being giving the boot, despite finishing 7th and bringing us a trophy, if it happens it'll be ridiculous and will most likely hinder any chances of us getting promoted.
Our new owner Markus Liebheer wasn't in attendance today and our fans have seemed to jump at the idea of him being unhappy with the fact that we haven't been promoted.

I'm not a fan of Pardew but that is daft if true, he's bought wisely in the transfer market, and Saints were hampered not only by the 10 ponit penalty but also by their slow start to the season. Keep that side and a couple more coming in during the summer and you'll walk this League.
