For me: Bolger > Sokolik > Prosser.

Glad to have Sokolik signed on, think there's a top player in there, just needs someone solid and reliable alongside him to get the best out of him. Alongside Barrett, no doubt he'll do very well, alongside Thompson, I'm not convinced. bring in another experienced head at the back and I'll be happy with that.

I thought Polish Pete we had on loan would have been good, with more game time. He looked a tough player, I don't think we saw the best of him.

It is probably this. He signed his contract with Yoevil in L1. Probably a quite decent contract. Agent probably said he wanted same- we said no here's a much lower contract as we are giving him a chance to get on track. Bit of to and fro- time not on any ones side- how about this.. he signs for 5 months on this which gets us to the next window, if he proves himself and we get the player we hope we are then he's worth what you are asking and then he gets a long term contract at that.

A very good deal for the club and ultimately the player if all goes to plan. Player would not want to sign for 2 years on peanuts, this way he gets to prove himself at L1 level and earn a long term L1 contract. If he said no he would be looking at L2 and still hunting for a club..

There's some talent in him somewhere. He's got 5 months to show it. Happy he's signed but would still like a few more to be reassured

You are so predictable. As long as PB is our manager you will never be happy with any signing he makes.

Not true. I'm happy with Cox, Demetriou, Oxley & McGlashan. If we can get the McGlashan that was at Cheltenham then we've a real asset. But no, I'm not happy about the signing of the Yeovil reject.

Well, besides the league we have the league cup and the JPT games so there should be opportunities for Socko to show what he is about.

I think this shrewd management by Phil Brown. Jakub Sokolik has already demonstrated in his first spell with the club he is a very capable centre-back. But a combination of factors have contributed to him not fulfilling his potential since then. By giving Sokolik a short-term contract (with a view to a longer term one), Phil Brown has given him the incentive to buckle down on a consistent basis to recapture his best form. Personally, I think Sokolik is going to respond positively to this challenge.

Just out of interest AB, would you have been happy if we had signed Sokolik permanently at the end of his original loan period with us?

5 month contract, this must mean club are not very confident about him, im getting the feeling the club are pretty desperate this season, its going to be a long season for us me thinks !

At that time, yes. Although I'd have preferred Egan and in hindsight I think JE made Jakub look better than he perhaps was.

Look I don't want anyone to fail here. He's wearing the shirt and I'll back him. The signing just doesn't fill me with the greatest optimism though. But Cian Bolger won me over...

Agreed. Deegan was signed on a 3 month contract and he always gave 100% from day one. Often first to arrive at the training ground for an early gym session.

Wouldn't we all. Never an option for us.

You have a point, as in the 2 CB's on trial have been rejected else where. But that does tell us none of the Bentley/Payne money is going to be spent on transfer fees. Even Bolger cost a fee. So not sure how we can get a player guaranteed to be better than Bolger without spending some cash.

Thinking back I wish we had signed the pair of them permanently as they complemented each other very well. That said one of my season lows was their collective Roots Hall performance against Burton in the play-offs. Maybe I was expecting too much from them for that game.

I doubt we'll see any money from the Bentley/Payne deals for at least another 12 months, especially Bentley.
