Breaking News SMS- Grant to sign 2 year deal

Carl Pettifer type players dont win games sadly......

Please elloaborate ???

Surely if your 1-0 up and your getting pegged back and you have the desire and ability to go with your runners and stop the opposing wingers from getting balls into or box where we are nortiously suspect ,tackle, dig in when nessecery and do the other horrible aspects of the game then surely you are contributing to winning the game ????

Based no what we saw last year though, do we think he is any good?

He looked like a decent footballer but he needs to garner some position specific skills. I appreciate we might be signing him as a utility player but I think he would do better to try and stamp his authority (I wouldn't use that phrase to him) on a position.

They don't win you matches, they win you promotion. You might not find them winning games but effort players allow you to sustain form.

I think with the loss of Gower, gaining form in the first place is more likely to be the problem.

Nothing wrong with having workman like players who will chase down every ball but to unlock defences especially as you go up the leagues you need creativity.

A combo of a ball winner and a creative midfielder is a winning one but as I see it we have a lot of ball winners (Grant,Bailey,Macca, Moussa) but not much in terms of creativty (Gower types).

Creative players by there very nature are inconsistant but IMHO we are crying out for one or two.

Yes Ricey, you'd have thought they'd learnt their lessons from the whole James Walker thing. I thought signings would only be announced when they HAD signed from then on.

They cant win can they ?

They try to appease fans, yet in doing so get burnt, then when they have a deal they know is going to complete and keep quiet people are screaming they arent doing anything.

Its been obvious Grants deal is just being worked out and he will sign for some time and sometimes fans just need to have a little patience.

Fingers crossed a left back will be announced by tomorrow.

Great news. Always handy having a utility player in the squad. Perhaps Grant will start at full back Saturday if we don't get someone else in.

Good signing Tilly!

i would imagine that grant might play wide left to protect whoever is at the back... i really don't like the idea of either having barrett/sankofa/new LB being protected by walker or revell

with no other new signings:

mildenhall

francis clarke sankofa barrett
scannell bailey moussa grant
barnard furlong

The fact that we leak goals from all over the pitch means that something needed to be done and Tilly IMO has gone about it by getting in a player that potentially could be a solid player for us , Yes he may lack Ceativity and yes they are more likely to win you points but this club needs to wiin ugly sometimes as i feel that is a massive flaw in the way we play.

I admire tilly for wanting to play football the right way but there are times when opposing teams need to be nullified and the Donny game was a massive example ,as we can't always match teams with our passing style of play.
I agree we do need a pacy winger who will create but for the time being as long as we shut up shop then i feel we have achieved a massive part in the jigsaw that may see us get promotion in the next 2 seasons.

There is no denying Dave that Gower was a great player who was a joy to watch at times but if you was to be picky then he always let his left back down big time by never going with his runner and never dealing with any physical players or any ball in the air .

We let so many goals in down the flanks that something had to give and if it means bringing in ugly type players for the short term then so be it .

Would swap Barrett with Sankofa and got a feeling walker will start up to partnering Barnard if he pulls through from injury .

i think that's fair... either way i would want someone solid like grant protecting our left side, rather than one of our tilly-style striker-winger players (win-kers?)

Compared to Tommy Black, Gower was a defensive genius.

yes, lets get him to pen it down now..

good news :)

also, Pubeys:

I know depth blah blah blah but at the moment I wouldn't be too unhappy with that..

He's a holding midfielder. But what's he supposed to do if he's asked to play elsewhere?

FWIW, I think he'll be down as a centre-midfielder here. Remember Gutts was being used out wide when he first signed and then second season was given the chance in the middle. I think the same will happen with Grant.

Exactly. I bet we conceeded far less goals down our left than we did down our right in the last two seasons.
