Tell them to shut it or not?

I see shrimpfan has been banned for perceived personal abuse.
Why has the other party in the matter not received similar treatment.
After all, I should have thought being told to get a wash would qualify as personal abuse.

Ahhh Mr Scorpion you grace us with your presence once more!

Scorpion for MOD!!!!

I share your frustration young Dan/Dave, there are huge numbers of supporters who get on the players' backs the second a pass goes astray, it's quite ridiculous and we've had this discussion so many times - ENCOURAGE not DISCOURAGE!

The best comment I've seen in the numerous times this has been debated was by Yorkshire Blue who said something along the lines of "It's not that we don't think someone is playing rubbish, it's just that we think it does no good telling them they are rubbish."

Given how successful the Tilson era has been relative to most of Southend's history, I often wonder how current-day moaners coped with what went before

I don't abuse any players however bad they are. Maybe I'm getting old and mellow!

Sometimes it is not the abuse that is questionable but the loss of memory so many seem to have. Francis may well be having a bummer of a season but I have witnessed enough displays from the lad to know that he clearly does have terrific ability. He is not a bad player but a player going through a bad time. It could be a problem thats down to him, or being unsettled, not clicking with the current team around him etc etc. Who Knows? All I know is that he is capable and on his day arguably one of the most skillful in the squad. Hopefully he will get his act together and give us the displays we crave.

Why is it that the people that are constantly berating the players repeat the same abuse over and over and over again? There's a woman who sits a few rows behind me and all she can say is "you're rubbish ........ (insert anyone's name), take him off Tilson." She is entitled to her opinion but after 20 minutes I could cheerfully throttle her.

I recall an old couple who permanently abused "Gardner" - it was actually Garner - in the West stand, south end at the back.

There used to be an old bloke he sat 2 seats along from me who never stopped moaning about gower, even when he weren't on the pitch he would be slating him. The thing is though the second you tell someone to shut up (usually someone old or a teenager) it either starts getting violent or they go crying to a steward or the rozzers and i cant be bothered with the agro.

Unfortunately found myself in Block X on Friday (that'll teach me to leave it to the last minute), was nice of the ticket office to get me something better than restricted view but was sat in the middle of one guy wearing an Arsenal shirt and his half baked mate having a conversation about "If this is the standard of the top end of this league I'd hate to see what the bottom is like".

FOR ****'S SAKE!!! Any team who come and play to do a completely negative job on a team renowned for trying to play nice flowing football is going to take all of the sting out of a game. But still, it's easier to come out with the negative remarks rather than step back for 2 seconds have a thought about WHY the game is so negative and then make a comment.

I personally doth my cap to Franchise FC, they did a job on us. Don't mean we were **** and I would never start shouting about it. We have the power to vote with our feet and make a statement that way. If your clients came and stood over you and watched you work and kept on your back every time you made a slight mistake you'd eventually go doolally, I've said it before, they're not robots, they're not exactly the most intellectual people in the world (I'm not saying that all footballers are thick, but they're what you would class as your typical salt of the earth kind of bloke).

I learnt my lesson 12/13 years ago when me and my mates were abusing Leo Roget for having a mare. Alas he lost it and ended up thumping the ball into the South Lower in our direction and got booked for it. Wasn't proud and now can see why you shouldn't do it.

In my opinion they shoud'nt let anyone in the ground wearing another clubs colours. We're probably too easy going. Would this guy wear his arsenal shirt if he went to watch millwall play anyone in this division ?, i doubt it.

Maybe we should take to chanting abuse at sub-standard fans, "is that all you say", "same complaint all the time, you're rubbish!", "why don't you **** off and give your seat to someone who knows how to complain"

Could be quite entertaining!

Years ago we used to sit in front of an entire family that did nothing but moan every single game, you wonder why people like that bother getting up in the morning!

Never met an Arsenal fan who knew anything about football anyway. They give it all the "Charlie Big Potatoes" bollox all the time and constantly do nothing but prove what absolute ***** they truly are.

Why come to a game where two other clubs are playing wearing an Arsenal shirt? Agree 100% that the **** should have been kicked out and banned from ever coming back to RH ever again.

Quite ironic that. I watched Arsenal v Sunderland on my laptop the other week and I was thinking "If this is what a top four side is nowadays ....."

The solution is simple. If you feel the negativity is going too far, politely tap them on the shoulder, and even more politely say "Excuse me, whilst I appreciate you have paid your money and feel you have a right to voice a very well considered opinion, you haven't paid for the right to ruin the day of the people around you by your selfish actions."

That's when you throw a cup of piping cold Roots Hall tea at them, explaining that by taking this action, you are in fact improving the matchday experience for everyone. You then thank them for their consideration and call an ambulance.

Easy.

You will never stop people moaning for the simple fact that they enjoy it, and it is difficult to stop people doing what they enjoy.
If win they are happy becasue we win, if we are crap (In their opinion) then they can 'enjoy themselves' by getting on the players back---- and we all know there is a massive difference between a simple 'for XXXX sake and constant berating of a player.
