Why does it always seem Southend Utd get a raw deal from Sky? Wycombe get a nice extended piece , Hartlepool get a team bonding quiz, Oldham show off newly painted training complex. We get our manager having one of his dodgy looking moles ripped off...................GREAT:thumbdown:

Apparantly the Southend segment was cut short due to traffic problems , so the interview with Ron Martin's cleaner had to be pulled.....

I think that's true of all Sky's football coverage actually.

Really? I think they do a great job in promoting lower division football. We've been live on sky countless times - that's a life line for clubs like us. Our game is a global success and that is due to Sky Sports. Go and live in Denmark and watch their leagues if you can bare it - on second thoughts, they're all watching the English Premier league on Sky as they are all over the world.
Where is the BBC review for Southend?

Sky at Charlton now, reporter we talking with the communications manager & he asked about transfers, she replied there will be an outgoing player imminent. Cant help but hope its the pig.

Personally I think they love a cliche, and are cringeworthy to watch. I'm not sure what you mean by "our game" because I personally don't identify with the Premier League. Moreover I don't believe that "our game" is a global success because of Sky. It's just as possible it would have become so with any other TV company. The people that made it a success (assuming you accept that it is) are the people that run the PL, not Sky.

I do accept they give more coverage to the lower leagues, but that isn't my argument. My argument is that they do it badly. For example, how many years did they wheel out Ronnie Whelan for all Southend matches? They only stopped doing that when we complained, and they realised he isn't actually that well liked in Southend.

You also have to look at why they now show so many lower league matches. It's not through altruism, it's because BT Sport have nicked a fair few of their PL matches. They'd rather show that than have people buy a subscription to a rival. Some people will subscribe, and watch BT Sport, but the majority probably won't, and will watch lower league football instead. It's almost like a loss leader for them.

And don't get me started on Soccer AM, which is just about the worst football related TV programme that has ever been conceived.

I have Sky, and do watch it, but only because there is no alternative at the moment.

Quite liked their idea of the pitch side "fans sofa" gimmick also. I noticed it said "From £200" which isnt o.t.t. considering you could get 3 people on it, works out at just under £67 each.

Sky have to take massive credit for the success of the Premier League as it was their money that allowed it to be launched. No one else was going to screen dozens and then hundreds of live football games and the money that went into the game, especially in the early 90s, contributed massively to the turnaround in football in this country, along with the Taylor Report and Italia 90.

Of course showing lower leagues isn't altruism, but the lower leagues are also not a money maker for any broadcaster. You only have to look at the viewing figures that ITV Digital were getting to see that. People don't want to see Port Vale vs. Sheffield United. That Sky show these matches, regardless of their motives, is a good thing for the fans of clubs who probably wouldn't have the national TV exposure otherwise. Like us.

To be honest, I've watched a lot of sports channels around the World and none hold a candle to Sky Sports.

At least we aint Colchester, did anyone see their 92Live piece, highly embarrassing, Interviewed started with the manger about their quality youth products, then he introduced a youth product to 'show his skills', Sammie Szmodics, he did about 5 kicks ups & stopped to be interviewed, after the interview the presenter asked him to do some more 'skills'.....................to which he did 2 more kick ups lost control & hammered the ball up into row z..........................presenter was stunned!!!!!!:smile:

Well, I'm sorry so many seem to think the piece was "lame", we were due to be broadcast at 9 o'clock but incidents at Dartford conspired to delay Sky's arrival. They then had to fit us back in the schedule. Let's not forget that this waxing was a charity fundraiser in aid of the appeal to help local lady Tracy Ralph get back on her feet, literally. It was Phil and the club's idea to include this as "our" segment, and I thought it came over very well.

In the first photo there is only one SUFC shirt hanging up - ........Bentley's; I bet the conspiracy theorists can make something of that :winking:

The waxing took place in the kit room......Dan arrived after everyone else, the rest were already changed and out on the pitch. A few of them were late arriving because of transport problems. So, no conspiracy, honest, it was just somewhere safe to hang his top!

Suze and I were entertained by the various goings on in the physio room in the lead up to this, with most players coming in and having a chat - unfortunately, none of them were allowed to watch the actual waxing!

Southend feature one game a season at home unless they are in playoffs or cups.
Sky make millions from fans and give little back to lower leagues, as it is all about the Prem for them and worldwide TV coverage.
BT did well for a couple of seasons with good coverage of the Conference.
Sky money inflates wage demands of top level players, and quite a few clubs would struggle without Sky TV money.

You took the morning off work to watch SSN because Sarfend were going to be on it for three minutes? Seriously? :hilarious:
Actually I got bugger all sleep, last night due to one of our cats deciding to play claw the adults at 2am. That was good enough excuse to take the day off.

And don't get me started on Soccer AM, which is just about the worst football related TV programme that has ever been conceived.

As a pure concept, Soccer AM's an excellent idea. There is an enormous audience in this country for a football-themed chat/entertainment show on Saturday mornings. But in its current format Soccer AM is a woefully tired and **** poor attempt at providing it. It should've been canned years ago and Helen Chamberlain, Tubes et al cast back into the ****ing sea.

Sky gets a bad rep, and rightly so on many fronts, but their overall coverage of the product they have is very, very good. I succumbed to the pressure and got BT Sport this summer (a great decision given they look set to nab La Liga coverage this year), and it's amateur hour over there in comparison.

But this 92 Live thing is downright vomitous. Self-serving nonsense. I thought Phil Brown's back was going to be the worst thing I'd see today, but I've had to watch the odious Jim White do three separate interviews in which he spent the majority of the time gurning down the camera lens because he's the real star of this show. Horrendous stuff.
