Bilel (but, how good is it that we have so many goal scoring options)... What a job PS has done:clap:
Credit to the club thus far:clap:If we can bag em when they blow it (as we should), give em credit when they get it right:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

I am so looking forward to this... What an awsome season this is turning out to be... It's amazing to think of the last few years that it has turned out like this: seriously, how boring is the EPL to this ...
Still many more challenges ahead, both on and off the pitch, but I am so pumped I can't wait:loyalsupporter:UTB

Hello to all Shrimpers !

Good luck for the rest of the season (after Saturday of course). Achieving promotion, hopefully not at the expense of us, would be a massive achievement considering what you've had to deal with in recent years. I also spent a bit of time in Southend back in the '80's, so i've always had one eye on how you're doing. The Rusty Bucket, The Dickens, TOTS and The Papillon on the seafront I remember them well !

As for Saturday, I reckon it'll be very close. We are excellent at home, the unbeaten record speaks for itself and there are only five teams in the whole league still unbeaten at home in the league (Man City, Liverpool, Birmingham, Charlton and us). Our current form problems however are due to not being clinical enough in front of goal and unless that improves we will surely have some difficulty against you as your goal scoring at the moment is superb (12 in the last three away, can't be ignored). That said, we are still creating the chances and my view is that we have too much ability up front for the lack of goals to continue, whether it comes against you is another matter. Defensively at home we are very sound, especially now that captain Sharps seems to be approaching his best form after problems earlier in the season.

You seem to have a problem away against the better sides, losing all three you have played against teams in the current top nine. I'm not sure quite what that signifies, possibly a difficulty in breaking teams down that are more organised than others lower down in the division.

All considered, I think it all points to either a 0-0 or 1-1 result

Pity about the Rusty Bucket, I now believe it's a McDonalds drive-thru. What a shame.

Yes the Bucket is a Mc'Donalds now but for me its not a shame because I use it a lot more now than when it was the Rusty Bucket. What a dump that was. I can remember going in there when it was the Golden Goblet and when we went to school (Cecil) its where all the after school fights took place. I think it was called the Invisible Man for a while too.
The Dickens is no longer there although is still a pub. I did like the Dickens in the 80's with the main attraction being the PAC Man machine. The Papillon was still there last time I looked and TOTS has been re-branded as Talk but is still going.
One of the few things that hasn't changed is Southend United. We have always had our dark times and also some very exciting times. At the moment we are on a high and looking to the future with great hope. So yes 0-0 or 1-1 would be fine but we really would love the win and I think we will do it 3-2.

Southend win for me all the way. Sturrock has strengthened the team considerably in the transfer window. In Martin and Sampson we have two classy players who will help us go up a gear. Benyon has showed flashes of what he can do and Flood sounds like he'll be a handful. The worry is the defence - we need them to be on song. If they are I think we'll be too much for them. UTB:clap::clap:

Sturrock mentioned Flood won't be playing anytime soon, but even without him we're flooded with great options up top. Dickinson Sampson Benyon Bilel Harris.

EDIT: Oh, no pun intended...

I was born in Shrewsbury so this is always a fixture I look out for.

Routine away win. 3-0 Southend.

If we win our next 2 games then I reckon we are up.. draw then both no prob.. lose them both then we are still in with a good shout

Would like to see us keep it tight (due to their impresive home form) and play 4-5-1 for the first hour and hopefully not concede with this
Morris
Clohessey Phillips Barker Gilbert

Hall Kalala Grant Timlin Martin

Dickinson

One of the two wingers could get up and support Dickinson when we get the ball.
Then, depending if we haven't conceded or had anyone sent off, injured. Bring Sampson, and Mohnsi for last half hour and really go at them in a 4-4-2. Taking off maybe Grant and Martin injuries apart.

Pity Leonard is not available for this one, as his defensive side would be a help in midfield. I would therefore have to include Prosser on the bench to try to shore things up if they score a couple. Don't know whether Flood is match fit yet, or if benyon has got over his niggle/injury.

I am thinking this too. They are building up pressure at home because of that stat of having not been beaten. I would be amazed if they take that forward for much longer and feel we could be the ones to end it.

As much as I agree that their home form must break at some point, that doesn't mean it will be this season. It is possible to go a whole season without losing at home.

Southend United season 1980-1981 (home):

W 19
D 4
F 47
A 6

That goals against column is still amazing.

Can only see a sizeable defeat.

When will some people have any optimism?

Top of the league , top scorers, in good form, yet as soon as we play anyone away we will get spanked. We didnt get to where we are by getting spanked regularly.

Now Ive said that we will lose 4-0.

The whole thing was amazing, but especially the goals against. I even remember Mervyn Cawston went around 985 minutes without letting in a goal at home. When someone finally scored he threw off his gloves, sat down against a goal post and sulked for a couple of minutes!

I also remember Rochdale scoring first in the last home game of the season which pretty much stunned the entire crowd. Thankfully we equalised!

By co-incidence that was the season I decided to start collecting programmes. I have about 90% of home programmes (and a fair few away ones) from then on...

Great memories, we won our first home game of the season 5-1 against Port Vale, who's scorer was Neville Chamberlain, luckilt he wasn't brandishing a piece of paper claiming peace in our time. As you say we then went on a run of over 10 league games before conceding a goal at Roots Hall. Although we did lose 1-0 at home to Hereford in the FA Cup.

Quite incredible, and I doubt from a SUFC perspective this will ever be replicated.

I remember that season with great satisfaction. I think Liverpool were the only league club that season to match our home record.

Didn't we have Moody & Cusack in the back line in those days and wasn't Dave Smith manager at the time?

Oh, heavenly days! :happy::happy::happy:
