Should The Mail Say Sorry?

Benfleet A1

Hector Of The House🦐
Ed Milliband has got in all of a divver over The Mail On Sunday and Daily Mail articles about his father Ralph who they say hated this country. Should the papers apoligise or is there any truth in what they have written.

The Daily Mail should apologise for most of their awful content to be fair.

I had the pleasure of hearing Ralph Miliband speak when I was an undergraduate. He was most certainly an academic Marxist.

How anyone can extrapolate from that (or his diary as a seventeen year old), that he somehow hated the country which welcomed him as a Jewish refugee from the Nazis and for which he volunteered to fight for in the Navy in WW2, is quite frankly beyond me.

Probably for the same reasons that you come across as hating this country. I'm (fairly) sure you don't, but it certainly comes across that way most the time

I don't hate the UK.Just Tories,as my signature suggests.

Getting back to the Mail, it is quite simply the worst sort of journalism to make a scurrilous attack on a defenceless dead man, purely in order to make political capital against one of his sons, both of whom are Social Democrats rather than Marxists, unlike their father.

Unlike the attack and raising a glass to the death of Lady Thatcher (you know, that defenceless dead woman)

Anyway, let's have a few quotes from old Ralph and then we can let everyone decide for themselves.

In a diary entry made shortly after he arrived in Britain, the teenage Miliband perceived an insular nationalist tendency in the English, and complained about a contempt for the continent in general and for the French in particular, writing: "When you hear the English talk of this war you sometimes almost want them to lose it to show them how things are ... To lose their empire would be the worst possible humiliation"

A great start to his new life in the country that had given him sanctuary from Nazi controlled Europe. Tell me Tangled, does that sound like someone who intends to embrace his new country of choice?

He followed the teachings of Marxism, in other words total control over the population, against the ruling classes while seeking the very power the percieved ruling classes had.

"Let the ruling classes tremble at a Communist revolution. The proletarians have nothing to lose but their chains. They have a world to win. Workers of the world, unite!"
Karl Marx

All will be equal only some will be more equal than others. All this bollocks about workers raising up and taking control lead of course by the likes of Ralph Milliband who had never done a days work in his life. Tell me how many of these oppressed workers were going to get the nice big house in Hampstead, the education that he had afforded to him with Belguim govenment funds (those same such govenments he wanted to eradicate) were the workers united going to get that as well?

All he offered and preached was mind control as long as it wasn't his mind being messed with which is pretty much what his idiot son intends to do.

The Mail managed to sneek a reporter into a memorial service for Miliband's uncle, held at Guy's Hospital yesterday. While there, she's alleged to have roamed around trying to get Miliband's family to talk on the recent stories. Seems the Mail's getting a bit antsy about this furore...

The Mail on Sunday has apologised unreservedly. The Mail editor is about to be sacked.

Yes, they were very, very wrong. Scumbag paper.

Unlike the rags like The Mirror, Sunday Mirror and The People who all revelled in the death of Thatcher. So this is how the free press works.

You're completely missing the point about Ralph Miliband.Famously, he rebuked Eric Hobsbawm, the great Marxist historian, for not disowning the Soviet Union, as he himself had done.

I suggest you read Ralph Miliband's Parliamentary Socialism for the definitive account of why the Labour party is doomed to failure and his The State in Capitalist Society for an excellent critique of why Social Democracy will never triumph over Capitalism.

Let's face it, this has all blown up because of Ed Miliband's determination to replace the Press Complaints Commission with a watchdog which will have teeth, which of course gutter papers like the Mail bitterly oppose.

They have only apologised for sneeking a reporter into the memorial service. Now on the other part of the story if they believe it to be true then no they shouldn't apologise especially if they can prove it. It's called a free press you know.

If he keeps insisting on using the image of his dead father to boost his campaign, I guess it was only a matter of time before someone questioned the credentials of the source of his inspiration, and that someone is (predictibly) the Mail.

To be honest if he is running for election and his Dad used the words (which it seems like he did) "When you hear the English talk of this war you sometimes almost want them to lose it to show them how things are ... To lose their empire would be the worst possible humiliation" IN ANY CONTEXT, you probably wouldn't want to involve him in your election campaigns - in any capacity.

So in short, should the Mail apologize? Yes. Should Miliband be using such a questionable role model in his campaigns? No.

Should Miliband stop being such a snivelling wimpbag? Yes.

Now that is one of the finest books that you ever left at home.

I think the Mail should make the magnificent Peter Hitchens its new editor. Sort the men out from the boys...
That is a good call, he is one of the most narrow minded moany throwbacks to be given airtime and if he had a full time job maybe I wouldn't have to listen to his bile every time political programs need to drag in a blinkered hater in to even up the panel.
