Having spoken to him on different occasions I genuinely think he does. He gets on really well with the other players and MAF, who has played at lots of different clubs, said recently that the team spirit at Southend was the best he'd ever known.

We don't want to sell him so does not matter- in fact may help as if bids are going to be pointless then not only will we not sell but Ryan will question if they are only prepared to pay a fee associated with a back up squad player at championship level would it be better to wait anyway. Millwall aren't good enough and the probability of them coming straight back down as we go up is so high I can't see that be quite as attractive as people are saying.

I said £400k max and hopefully some good clauses [appearances, relegation survival, sell on percentage] so I think we're pretty close to what we CAN get for him in this situation and as much as I'd love for these £1m and £1.5m valuations to be realistic, they're not. I guess it depends how much Ron values Ryan being in the squad next season.
So many have said about Thompson leaving, all that effort developing a player for nothing. Do you really want to see that again? and to the player that's grown most at the club.
What if we get promoted? Does that mean he'll stay? No. We could get promoted and he'd still be a free transfer for perhaps a host BETTER more secure Championship clubs.

If RM asks for 1.5 m for Lenny then thats how much he rates him and has put a figure on it ,hopefully to scare away the clubs, good on him, now with WA and AT gone he will have a little more cash he can entice Lenny with too sign a new extension to his present contract hopefully.

He will have less cash. We will need to replace Atkinson and Thompson as well as 3 or 4 new signings. Everyone wants upgrades every season that means more wages.

£300k is a nonsense. £1-1.25m reasonable given what is getting paid elsewhere. Anyhow he is not for sale and apparent RM says his staying - which given he can be somewhat stubborn on these things shall we say tells me there is no a better than evens chance he is going nowhere.

No he won't. If he is persuaded to stay, he's being offered a vastly improved contract. That will be a contract that will suit him and suit the club in case of selling at a later date.

He'll want to play at a higher level and for more money than we can afford to pay and I for one, don't blame him. He'll retire in his mid 30's, he could have another 60+ years on the planet.

fairpoint-but budget isn't everything. 'Allegedly we have an unbelievable team spirit---- Huddersfield,Leicester--- why can't we dream as well ?
I'd be bothered if Lenny left for free at the end of next season.
Of course, this shows the importance of having young players. Had WA, AT and Lenny been under 24 we'd have been entitled to a fee, like we were with Bentley and Payne.
Maybe time to go younger?
