Unfortunately we have many "part-time" supporters as Colchester in general doesn't get behind the club (too many Ipswich fans stemming from the vast difference in playing levels going back to the late 70's)
Having said that we have reached reasonable levels of home support for some games - 7000+ home fans for Southampton, 7500+ for Norwich etc BUT the casual fans won't drag themselves up to the stadium on a Tuesday night to watch Carlise/MK dons (or when the game is on Sky as in last night).
Promotion would put the average home attendance up significantly, there is no doubt of that. In terms of capacity the structure of the stadium will allow it be expanded easily and fairly cheaply to 12,500 then 18,000 if it were ever to be required but that wouldn't happen unless we were able to sustain Championship football (2+ seasons for a start)
We now have a good platform, very good squad, good manager, new training ground planned, no debt and a stadium the generates a lot of non-match day income, it's up to the team - if we do get promoted Cowling will bankroll a good attempt at keeping there and the crowds will go up.
You do have a massive advantage in terms of a bigger and loyal fanbase, you do have an excellent manager (for now at least) but you are lagging in terms of stadium revenue (non-match day), you do have debt, a small squad and a Chairman that doesn't seem to be backing the manager financially - Perhaps the new stadium (if/when it happens) will open up greater potential for you, though that would depend largely on who would actually benefit from the revenue I suppose?

Seven thousand for the few big games in this league must still put you in the bottom few of this level I suspect as is pretty poor by all accounts.
Almost all your arguements are based upon form. "We have a good manager" (Liable to leave as no loyalty to Col U) " good players" (and having seen you twice I am not overly impressed but cant argue with form which mainly comes from your home games and that pitch) and no debt (as we have a mega rich chairman who could leave in which case how long can you play your 30+ pros).
I will be interested to see this same debate in a few years.
No debate is necessary - you and all your country cousins are inbred scum. That's not my opinion - it's as plain as the two noses on your face.
oh, ok - thanks for clearing that up, your fellow southend fans must be so grateful for your opinions on football if this is the level of your contributions
How can you be so holier than thou when you're having sex with your sister?
It's nothing to be with being holier than thou, just I don't personally go in for the childish name calling drivel that seems to excite you so much, would rather spend time on a public message board discussing football, clearly that's not something you're interested in
We know our attendances are poor, have been for years despite increasing slowly for last 3 or 4 years.
Of course our current position is based on form, and based upon a good manager who is unlikely to be here as long as Tilson has stuck with you but that is the reality of our current situation.
As for the players - I would say we have one of the best keepers in the league, Tierny and Magnus at the back would prob walk into any team in this division outside the top 3, David Prutton is class, O'toole is highly rated and Wordsworth is a young man with a promosing future too. Lisbie is proven at this level, Odejayi is good player - Platt and Gillespie would also go into most squads.
Bear in mind the players we have loaned out too - you are already excited about Baldwin (arguably our 4th/5th choice) - you took White and Heath for a period and are now hoping the Scott Vernon (again 5th choice) will be a pivitol player. Add to that Perkins is out at Stockport, Lockwood out at Barnet? plus a few younger players dotted around local lower league clubs. At this risk of gloating - remember less than a week ago our reserves stuffed yours 5-1,
Perhaps we are over-acheiving, perhaps it will be temporary but small clubs do sometimes grow, Wigan perhaps being the best example - small fan base, heavily backed by a wealthy chairman and look where they are now! - (not for one minute suggesting that we will end up in the prem but used as an example as how a small club can develop)
Perhaps with a new Chairman you could be the next club to step up a level or two - who knows? but we can only judge on the present and at the moment things are going well for us.

It's called HUMOUR...
Anyway, I'm prepared to give you the benefit of doubt seeing as you want to dicuss "football"...
PS - Wordsworth is a Shrimper (if only :p)
Eddy,
Heres a little clue for you. If you dont like people moaning about Colchester then **** off to a Colchester board.
I'd be interested to know how many of the players would be in the Col Ewe squad if the club had to exist within its revenue streams and not have the luxury of an individual bankrolling the club to a certain degree.
Have to say visits to Col Ewe are now a depressing chore rather than a decent day or evening out. Most of the home support seem to be delighted with a collection of breeze blocks with uncomfortable plastic seats bolted to them. Not for me. The gaudy advertising on the seats down one side of the pitch makes it look so, so cringeworthy. The club's soul is where they play and it's been ripped out of Col Ewe.
As for the pitch, well, we've seen with our own eyes. We tried to play football where they filmed Laurence Of Arabia. They instead tried to win. In a results driven business there was only going to be one outcome.
Relying on a sugar daddy to pay for everything, in a 'stadium' that pleases the corporate culture in football, it is League One completely sanitised and anti-septic It's not for me, whatever the result. Col Ewe may have won the three points but they've lost their soul.
this was my first trip to the new stadium and other than the fare on offer at the food kiosks I can't think of anything I liked about it. I loathe football grounds on industrial estates. We left early due to possible traffic but there weren't any and we got to the ground before 6 (the old man was driving and wanted a quick get away afterward so parked near the ground). Normally we'd head to the pub but being miles from anywhere we just headed to the back of the stand where the wind was horrendous and we waited for half an hour while they opened the turnstiles freezing our bollocks off (there were some problems with the ticket readers).
I'm going to miss going to that **** hole Layer Road.
Our attendance ? What about the pitiful turnout from the south of the county ? Very poor, especially when you consider that we took about 700 more to your place on a day when there were no trains.
For a club with such little resources I thought your 'XI' gave it their best shot, and we were not at our best. The thing is we still won comfortably, the signs are all there that relegation awaits you.
I certainly hope so.
One Team.
