Sexism in the streets of this city

Dave, if you stopped trying to stare at women's muff and charlies whilst in the gym, they probably wouldn't bother with women only gym sessions.

As an English, white, healthy(ish) tax paying male, I don't think I've ever been discriminated against in this country on the basis of being English, white, healthy(ish), tax-paying or male. I'd be interested in hearing some more examples where you yourself (rather than a friend of a friend) have been discriminated against.

I havent recalled being discriminated against - but who is to say i wasnt using DtS example. I would never know unless it had been made clear to me (although this does touch on paranoia i know).

My point is that in some places these "inclusion groups" do the complete opposite. Im all for women in the workplace groups for example, where they get speakers in to tell first hand accounts of the discrimination they have received, which as a male, would be interesting as it wouldnt be something ive experienced. What i dont get is the same group having women only fashion shows, or tea mornings during work hours.

Im all for giving people every chance in life whether they are a different race, sex or if they are handicapped, but sometimes these inclusion groups do the complete opposite and cause resentment.

Hmmmm. Difficult subject to approach without getting flack but ...I agree with Dave in the main. I am alot older than alot of you. I have seen the changes for the better and for the worse in this country. It is without doubt that we have become second class citizens since the "Euro" state. I am not blaming those from minority countries for taking advantage of our system which was created after the war Ie: National Health etc.I feel for more in places that have no choice like Africa. Mike(Xabia) left The Uk many years ago and if it was not for my son I would.

We are second class: example....I have a friend who suffered with a split from her husband ..He went bankrupt and they split up...they had no children ..She applied for Help from the council ...But were told ."You have no chance" We have a back log of "preferential"overseas people with children we have to care for first.. Again I dont have a problem with that Per se..But why after she had been here and working all her life was she put on the back of the queue?

This is the UK of Big Brother and irational thinking, not only to secregation on a "low" level like Gyms, but to opening a Wider "Void" than we have ever had in my lifetime

It frightens me very much how we have changed as a Country and I Fear for my son in the future, but I guess my son will talk like this in another few years. We Have LOST any direction and hardly many vote anymore. It's all political Crap.

If you are young without responsability you will no doubt cane me for this post ....If your Older you may agree.

I could go on but I'm sure you get the Gist of it

I've got two children and I see the UK as one of the fairest, most responsible countries in the world, where there is a growing economy, a great sense of humour, and I am proud to live here.

If I feel that I don't get what I deserve, then quite frankly, I will fight to improve my circumstances so I don't need to be in that situation again.

I don't want to blame other people just because I don't get a leg-up.

You will be quoting "the land of the free and the home of the brave" soon Naps.:p

Well surely I have just come up with a few....

Asian youth club when i was growing up I couldnt attend, a gym I cant attend as I dont fit the muff only policy, first 50 women get in free to a nightclub but men have to pay and that was saturday night, Rasta's allowed to smoke drugs in the street but I am not, Islamic mortgages as Muslims do not believe in paying interest which apply to muslims only, Muslims only team that play football in the Brighton league who I played against but cant play for, Southend United giving cheaper ticets a few years ago to people with an Asylum Seekers card, LTSB not charging overdraft interest on overdrawn current accounts opened with an Asylum Seekers card....need I go on??

Dave, I'm worried that you think just because some people get some benefits you're somehow missing out?

No I dont mate but I dont think anyone should get an advantage. Why should some be allowed something that others arent if were all UK citizens.

I am against someone getting something for nothing.

True. But if they are in genuine need of help, surely you can't deny them that?

I'd rather complain about the money spent on nuclear weapons which is a ridiculous waste of taxpayers' cash.

...nuclear weapons, ID cards, MP's expenses, the Olympics.... the list is endless and picking on immigrants is the usual, easy option.

Hang on,

I am not picking on immigrants...I also mentioned women and disabled people who could well be white and english who are given positive discrimination & the only people who dont get it in any shape or form are White,English, Healthy, Tax paying males...

Now you might argue we dont need the support.......

Ahem! that is taking it to a wided subject Naps..of which I would agree with you. The point still is We are overun with helping others in this country from "other" lands... I am fully aware that many leave here for sunnier climates or whatever but .as for helping yourself its a kind of chicken an egg situation for some. see my post about Tramps.

This post discludes third world countries.

If you talking about benefits then of course I dont mind an elderly couple getting money or people that have actually contibuted to the system.

What I am moaning about is this positive discrimination that makes very little differnce to people on reality (One Sex gyms & Asian youth clubs) but is very annoying if your on the recieving end.

OK, fair comment. I would argue that it does contribute- women who are scare to enter a testerone-fuelled environment would go more willingly to a women-only gym, for one.

Yes, it's annoying. But there's little you can do - it's not negative against you, it's pro someone else. There is a huge difference.

OK, without knowing the full details, it's a tough call to make for anyone.
