Sexism in the streets of this city

i dont know if anyone is aware of the free stuff that was been given out at Fenchurch Street and also at Oxford Circus, and im sure some other stations this morning... anyway, its basically consisted of a bottle of drink and a cereal bar... anyhow, being as i like a freebie, i went to grab one, and was told it was for women only...

anyhow... why is this... and surely if it were the other way round the women would be moaning that it was pure sexism... so that is what i thought i would do!

i was told the same sh!t at Liverpool Stret this morning. I walked away but a bloke about 10 yards behind me took this really badly and started pushing the person giving this stuff out about. Got a bit nasty but i think he got a bag in the end. I hoped it was lipstick in the bag and then he would have felt a right banana.

Does seem a bit sexist though! Equality and all that!

Well as example.

When I was at school there was an Asian youth club that could only be attended by Asian people, yet there was no White's youth club for White people only despite some of the parents trying to start one as this was "racist".

When I was at LTSB we were told to take on a person who was disabled over a clearly better heatlhy canidate (I mean better in experience not health) as we were under our disabled quota.

Women until recently retired 5 year earlier than men altough I accept this is no longer the case.

Fitness First where I am a member only have one gym in Brighton - This is however a "Woman Only" gym which I cannot use. However women can use either my one which is mixed sex of there.

In the event of a boat going down it is women and children first.

Must I go on.

We have a similar situation where i work, theres grousp for women, for employee's of African descent, single parents, gay and lesbians etc etc. Nothing if you happen to be white and straight.

True story, a white South African guy i worked with tried to join the Employee's of African descent group and wasnt allowed to join as it wasnt aimed at him..... :(

Well some quicky replies on this
1) Im guessing if you were at School 20+ years ago . If thats the case then it could simply have been becuase of the culture at the time . Precudice against people etc . Could also be relgious based (plenty of Ctholic /Jewish ones about for instance)

2) Thats to help perfectly cabaple physicaly diasbled people get back to work . Mind you most of theses are handled rather badly. Redressing an imbalance

3)Socially and misguided concept of female worth and psychiology

4)And why not , any idea how scare it is for some woman confronted by testoterone fuled guys (yes some do like and some hate it ). And generaly they got for entirly different fitness programes.

See 2) (Actually woman last longer in cold waters due allocation of body fat in certain areas :D. Children come one ;) )

I think both Daves have valid points here. The average Joe just doesnt get the privileges that others get.

I understand that it is important for everyone to be accepted no matter what walk of life they come from, however, when it comes to things like jobs, it should be best person to fit the role - end of. Who cares about colour, religion, medical conditions. Obviously there are certain circumstances when this isnt always possible but it isnt right to employ someone in a wheelchair just because the quota is down. It is ridiculous and I am sure the person in question would probably be rather offended if they knew it was the only reason they got the job.

We live in a ridiculousy over the top politically correct society thesedays where the average joe is forgotten, it will only get worse....

Dave, if you stopped trying to stare at women's muff and charlies whilst in the gym, they probably wouldn't bother with women only gym sessions.

As an English, white, healthy(ish) tax paying male, I don't think I've ever been discriminated against in this country on the basis of being English, white, healthy(ish), tax-paying or male. I'd be interested in hearing some more examples where you yourself (rather than a friend of a friend) have been discriminated against.

I'd like to see a MOWO ceremony but I'd bet it'd be Classic FM or Country and Western. Pretty much all music genres today are of Black origin. That doesn't mean they have to be performed by black people, as YB argued, more eloquently, than me.
