I think the club are trying to address gaining extra supporters through the gates here for next season but, my view is - the only way the attendance will increase is not through the free ticket scheme but if the players perform on the pitch. I think it would be a much better gesture if the club were to give the ST holders 2 free cup games

Thats the only sensible thing written tinks season ticket holders should get perks on cup games be it some for free or reduced costing(i know cup games are often cheaper anyways)

I think if the club give away cup tickets they have to account for them ---- the cost goes into the pot , so in effect, they have to pay for them.

my season ticket, seating, costs me 240 euros(200 pds),for nürnberg, germanys top league(bundesliga).17 games, that also includes travel to the game &back,if you live in the greater nürnberg area(vgn).where i live, bayreuth,is just in this area(vgn). so my travel is free...i live 80 kms(50 miles away),total 160km(100miles). cost not a penny more. i went and saw fürth at home the other week(bundesliga, bottom, going down),also in the vgn, standing ticket costs 13 euros(10 pds),also all travel free!!! if you are in a seat(in the ground),they walk round selling beers...

Sounds superb, but do they serve onions in their frankfurters?.

Yes , but that's German football.
Not really very good.
I mean it's not like one of them would beat Barcelona 4-0 is it ?

If I remember correctly, season tickets were actually small books and each game was numbered and you removed the ticket with the correct number from the book and handed it over at the turnstile.

At the back of the book there were tickets for the home friendlies plus the cup games early rounds, and these were all included in the price of your season book.

Yes, I remember that too.

Yep you are indeed correct. The last issue of the paper season ticket book was blue with the southend crest on the front. When you got to the turnstile the person on the turnstile gave you a letter of the alphabet and then ripped that out of your season book. There were friendlies/cup match tickets in the back of the book.
Cannot see it ever returning though as that would mean the club employing turnstile staff plus the cost of the season book

It would mean no grief for people getting into the first few games of the season compared with the last few seasons.

exactly AND STH's are more likely to go to cup matches in the first place so the club is loosing money it would have got. On the other hand STH's may give the free tickets to someone who would not normally have come- therfore zero cost to the club, and who knows they might enjoy it and come again.

I have said it before but you can't please everyone. No matter what the club did some one would moan about it. The club has to weight up whats 'fair' and what would supporters 'like to have' vs increasing revenue. Its not easy and I haven't seen anyone put forward a suggestion that increases revenue and makes STH's happy at the same time
