You could get off at Durham and get a local train / bus direct to Sunderland from there. Its only 7 miles apart.
Hmm... no direct train from Durham either - you still have to go to Newcastle.

There is a direct bus from Durham to Sunderland (the X20)... BUT there are only two an hour, it takes 40 minutes, and the last one back is at 17:11 from Sunderland Metro. So that's a no.

Thanks for the tips about St. Peter's station... like you say, that makes sense...!

I'll do a little digging about when i get in from work..... I'm 99%sure you can get from Durham to Sunderland on a train.

Later.

IF you get off at St Peter's station, you will be a very lonely Harry Potter lookalike... because the ground is near St Paul's station, as per SAFC79's post!

so mate where can we go for strippers?
im staying friday and saturdya night!
where's the best nightclubs?
ne recommedations wud be good!

I'm quietly confident....

Just hoping for a good open game.

PS

Our pitch is terrible at the minute.

Well we are in great form so Im sure a few of your fellow supporters will expect a 3 point home banker, but a lot of teams are finding thats not the case the last two months !

Both teams are completely different from the Roots Hall match so should be a good game.

Tough game for us, but recently we have shown we are able to get some rather unexpected results, Id be delighted with a point.

Hello I'm back.....:minger:

In no way are we under estimating you. We are just very confident at the minute, I honestly think we have the strongest squad in the league. We brought 4mill off the bench on Sat!

As for the 'Transport Oracle' lol In the north we have enough space to be able to run and drive cars! I never use council transport!

Your best bet though is to stay on till Newcastle and get the metro to St Pauls station

Hopefully, you'll be surprised by our performance. What we lack in financial muscle we make up in teamwork (small squad but work together). Must say I'm impressed by your facilities and hospitality, although we can only have a beer on the concourse. If our new ground is half as good I wont complain. We have a good away support and it should be a good atmosphere on saturday. You should win but don't place a bet!

:p

Fair do's, mate. Being a London-based Shrimper, we've got used to being cajoled out of our cars as much as humanly possible. Besides, driving to the north-east from down here is a long way and takes a long time. It's one of those occasions when letting the train take the strain definitely makes sense.

Thanks for the tip re the Metro - the transport spod in me is looking forward to a wee journey on it very much!

:D

Afternoon fellas.

Looking forward to a canny game this weekend.

If you are coming into New***tle station you have the option of getting a train connection into Sunderland Central station or the Metro that will take you to either St Peters, Central Station or Park Lane.

The trains and metro information can be found at www.nexus.org.uk/wps/wcm/connect/Nexus

Trains take around 20 minutes, but are less frequent making only one stop before Sunderland.

Metros take around 35-40 minutes but are more frequent and make maybe a dozen stops in total.

Similar to the train / London Underground malarkey you have down there.

If travelling by Metro, DO NOT get off at the station "Stadium of Light" as there's not much there apart from a walk straight to the ground.

Any of you wanting beer and food :

Sunderland Central will bring you close to Wetherspoons (Willaim Jameson) and Yates which are opposite each other and offer the usual fayre.

Park Lane will offer you more choice as there are a host of new bars there some offering food and some not.

Chaplins, Pure, Luma, Borough (real ale) and the pointe are all around there.

A couple of streets back will bring you to Fitzgeralds (real ale) Greens, Laings, The Ivy House (real ale) The Lambton Worm (wetherspoons).

Those of you looking for Jack the Rippers, seek out Idols and Modo, which are situated near Sunderland Empire.

If you get stuck, just ask as the majority of us are friendly and helpful.

Top man - thanks very much, Seeing Double!

Looking forward very much to Saturday. Part of me is looking forward to it from the day-tripper's point of view - there aren't too many stadiums like yours in the lower leagues... but part of me is hopeful that we might nick a point. After all - it's top (you) vs. third (us) in the current form tables... so who knows.

Should be a cracking day out, all the same.

:)

Matt

Cheers for that Seeing Double.
Is there an Irish pub in Sunderland which might be showing the Celtic game by any chance? One of my mates who's coming down for the game wondered?

Virtually all the pubs showing football in Sunderland show Sky Sports, some of them do not have the Pay Per View games though.

If the Celtic game is on Setanta, then I doubt it.

Which channel is it being shown on?
