We are all suffering from wanting to see a Rose in a thorn patch.......It is delusional at best, but still some will find solace in it somewhere.

Not really. What do you expect, anyway? Hall is influencing games in League 2 in his first season. That suggests he has a good chance of making it, does it not?

Muse to me you have always had some sense and been a good poster..have you seen the dross this year?..We have somehow caught the away teams on a bad day thinking they were going to walk over us...Do we have any semblance of a team NO.

Or are people letting their bitterness prevent them from seeing a rose in a thorn patch?

Only about 7 games for me this season, granted, but from what little I've seen Hall is our only flair player and looks to have a decent future.

Get over yourself.....one swallow does not make a summer......one guy has a good game or two and suddenly they become the new saviour...The guy is average at best in a bottom half league two team.

You are all living in cloud cuckoo land if you think this bag of rag a muffins have any talent ..

As Harry said I'm not saying we is going to be a world super star but he has produced done good games at the hall. He scored yesterday and set up another and he us only six months into being a pro.

I listed loads of players that have done very little but I don't think many could level that at Hall.

For me the one player in the squad who can take a man on and really worry defenders. At home I think he has struggled when teams have put men behind the ball. I think wingers often do better away from home when they can play on the counter attack. WOuldnt mind seeing him play on the right if we could get another left footer in.

Hall is a class act and really has made the left wing slot his own which is great.

I would argue there is loads of dead wood. Evans, Gilbert,Prosser, Phillips, Bouzis, Soares, Spencer, Patterson, Crawford, Herd have all done very little to be proud of this season and any could be moved on.

Really? The guy has played what less than 5 games for us due to injury, he is a good defender and definitely feel he would be reliable if/when called upon.

At the moment the guy is IMHO dead wood as he has been a total crock. I hope he can get fit at and form a psrnership with Moshni leaving Barker to go to left back but at this monent in time his value for money rating is about nil.

The Devil's advocate tries to strike again......He has had 2 good games....that is all......

9 Assists would suggest he's quite consistant. In fact with that stat some could ague he's been our best threat going forward this season, and had Sturrock not picked Soares and Simpson ahead of him in the wide positions for most of the early part of the season, his impact could and probably would of been greater. He now has a goal to his name too, and now he is starting regualry he's growing in confidence, and I for one reckon we'll see a couple more Hall efforts nestling in the back of the net, and that assists tally to keep growing.

He's not just a good player in our team, he's proving to be a good player at this level.

We seem to be clutching at straws, dont we? The squad is so lack lustre that we have forgotten what a 'real' player is. Cosistency - someone who makes a difference, not just occasionally, but regularly. Someone who quickens your step to Roots Hall. Someone who makes the crowd gasp with his pace, trickery, last ditch defending, powerful shooting etc. Do you see anyone other than maybe Mohsni and Grant fitting that bill?

Absolute rubbish.

Real defenders don't rely on last ditch tackles, they read the game.
Real goalscorers don't just shoot powerfully, they pass the ball into the net.
Real wingers are inconsistent.

You're after entertainers, not real footballers.

Only on SZ could the impressive form of a young winger be met with such mixed responses and derision. Can't we just accept that Hall's playing well at the moment, and it looks like he'll prove to be a decent acquisition?

There are very few wingers/wide midfielders who are consistantly good every game at any level and this is partly down to how well the rest of the team play. If we keep the ball on the floor and get it out wide then it gives a winger the chance to show what he can do. Its no surprise that the games he has been poor are the ones where we were hoofing it.

I would of said before Saturday that Hall was one who we definately should keep. We need to be realistic....we are not going to be able to sign players with proven talent in our position. Hall is exactly the sort of player we should be aiming to get (Young with good potential). Obviously spotting this sort of player before other teams is the hard part.

Absolutely this, just look at Barcelona.. you don't see Puyol or Pique sliding around and diving in front of shots because they've already intercepted the ball and they pressured the strikers higher up. You don't see Villa/Messi/Iniesta/Xavi lacing the ball from 30yards. They open up an opportunity to place the ball with their shot. Barcelona don't play with real wingers, probably for that reason. I'm struggling to think of many successful teams that still play with 2 'real' wingers.

Villa did yesterday with Albrighton and Downing, but even then Downing was cutting inside, with Agbonlahor playing more of a Wing Forward role.

Not sure I'd describe 17th place Villa as successful though!

True, but Downing and Albrighton have been two pretty redeeming characters in what has been a poor season for Houllier. I'd say that assembling a defensive unit around James Collins and Richard "Own Goal, Howler, Red Card" Dunne has more to do with their current predicament than the likes of Albrighton.

Teams who use two traditional wingers tend to only play one forward, though, what with the Mourinho 451/433 system being the current flavour.
