Running Thread

That is fast !
I couldn’t comprehend running at that speed, maybe for 500m- but that would be pushing it
Still trying to break 5 min/km on a regular basis ( only achieved it twice, once over 5k and once over 7 k)
Our club runner did it in 34 mins, nothing of him though and him has running coach etc
Me sub hour was over the moon so can only imagine 34 mins must be like though too old to even think of it, at end of the day everyone does 10 k regardless of time

The Southend 10k seemed, from where I was, to have gone well, without any problems. The number of runners seemed to be back above a thousand and although the men didn't appear to have a clear " cut above" runner at the front the lady first past me near the 5k mark was several 100 meters ahead of her nearest rival. The mass field, going for between 45 and 70 minutes time, was packed; and great to see so many working hard.
And a few SUFC shirts out there too.
Well done to the marshals from SAC and Flyers.

1244 looks like the official figure of finishers..thanks for marshalling and I did give you a shout out as I went past 👍🏼

Really struggled past the 3 mile mark. Didn’t help with 3hrs sleep, but that’s not an excuse. 1 hr 6 for me.
That wind was stronger than expected heading back towards Southend so I think most struggled after that 3 mile mark….I went for a time I probably wasn’t capable of and blew up a bit from 6k and ended up at 41:21. Next road race for me now is stebbing, I couldn’t get into Billericay 10k

I got into Billericay, hope weather better than last year monsoon lol
Royal Parks half marathon this weekend ,weather looks hot hot hot !!!

Did the Chelmsford half marathon yesterday.
My first half marathon in 22 years with very minimal training and poor preparation ( beers /nights out the three evenings before) so was happy with how it went.
Wanted to beat 2 hrs and did 1.59. I’m sure 1.55 (or better) is possible.

I don’t really have anything to compare to but I thought it was really well organised/marshalled.
Would recommend

Is this still a goer? What time would it start?

Sorry, I missed this.

I’ve pushed this back. A few things have come up, so I’m going to reschedule this.

I did the Chelmsford Half Marathon at the weekend, my first since Hackney back in May. Nice route, really enjoyed it, and ran with my nephew doing his first ever half marathon. He is doing London Marathon for charity in April.

He left me for dead at mile 9. Felt it was far too congested at the start, with both the marathon and the half starting at the same time and going out on narrow paths, so that cost us quite a bit of time that we never made back.

Would do it again for sure. First race my youngest has seen me do. Eldest saw me race the Brentwood Half back in March 2020 on the day he turned two months old, and youngest saw me at 2 months and 6 days.

Let me know when rescheduled Mike, as Granddaughter birthday Saturday and I forgot hence late pull out, be happy to run it, as long as not clashing with any races

Registration is always early August - get on the mailing list, it's a small field and always sells out in less than 10 minutes. This will be my 4th time running it, it's one of my favourites. I'm driving up on the Saturday this year with the Missus and making a weekend of it.
Just sent you PM, ignore as you have answered my question

Enjoy
