Hi everyone, and at last we're off with the first match of Battle of the Albums, and what a corker it promises to be ...

Pubeys OK Computer (Radiohead) vs Bobbby Greenbergs The White Album (The Beatles) ... over to you guys

Oh joy .. i double clicked the one in error so this poll will run for 11 days unless it can be changed ??

Edit: I voted OK Computer on the basis of the weaker songs on the White Album. In retrospect it's not a load of nads, but rather a fine album!

I wouldn't change my vote though - OK Computer was a defining album of my generation and it'll always be in my top 10.

I'll do a proper write-up later today cos I'm busy. However I'm not a beatles fan but wouldn't say that the White Album is even their best album. OK Computer is truely innovative, it pushed the boundaries of modern rock music, drawing from blues, prog, electronica and pop-rock. it sounds like it was made in the future, many have tried to copy it but no one has succeeded. The release of OK Computer came off the huge success The Bends, and Radiohead managed to maintain their rightful crown as the biggest alternative rock band of the millenium as they released Kid A in 2000.

They are also stunning live, and the tracks off OK Computer are still the linchpin of their live set-lists. No Surprises, Karma Police, Paranoid Android and Lucky are all huge hits... the album is ALL KILLER NO FILLER... it has been rightly called the Greatest Album of all time by Q and Virgin, and has featured very highly in lists by NME, Melody Maker, Spin, Alternative Press, Pitchfork Media, Time, Rolling Stone, The A.V. Club, Slant Magazine, and Allmusic

Really difficult for me this. My love of The Beatles is well documented, however OK Computer means so much to me personally and brings back fantastic memories of the time so that's just edged it.

good work Libertine, It's a shame one of these albums will have to fall in the 1st round

I know you're going to hate me Pubey, but I'm going for the White Album.

I ADORED 'OK Computer' as a teenager, but hearing it now makes me feel a bit embarrassed at how much I replayed it. I think the only tracks that stand up well on it are actually the ones they ignore these days in their live set ('climbing up the walls, airbag, let down, the tourist') and that 'Kid A', 'Hail to the thief' and 'In Rainbows' are all better albums in their entirety.

And 'The White Album' is easily my most played Beatles record. I might marginally prefer 'Revolver', but its a tough call. So 'The Beatles' edges it for me...

Ha-ha this is like fighting talk cause I love both albums. However. Jon talks about how innovative ok computer is. Goodness me! What on earth do you think the Beatles were up to decades before.
Keep it retro people.

when i get to the bottom i go back to the top of the slide...

Where i stop and i turn and i go for a ride

Only the best Beatles album in my opinion. Even Honey Pie has its appeal. But Helter Skelter is one of my favourite songs Ever!

Wow. What a tie. And a very difficult decision for me.

OK Computer was seminal, I remember watching them play at Glasto '97 just after it had been released and was totally blown away. An incredibly important record both in the history of music & to me.

The White Album. Despite growing up in a house where there was never a Beatles record far away from the record player, I never really listened to this great album properly until a few years ago.

If you'd asked me a few years ago, I'd have said OK Computer like a shot but there are Radiohead albums I prefer (Kid A, Hail to the Thief...), so I'm going for the White Album (sorry Pubey) - Back in the USSR, Dear Prudence, Glass Onion, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Happiness is a Warm Gun, Blackbird, Why Don't We Do it in the Road & Helter Skelter are all among my favourite tracks of all-time.

Not a huge fan of the Beatles (more of a Stones man to be honest) but like a lot of their stuff and respect them immensely. Think Sgt. Pepper is actually their best album so will vote for OK Computer in this one.
