A quick look through this list...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Administration_(British_football)

and it looks like close to 50% of clubs outside the premiership have been in administration at some point (some more than once). Whatever you think of the way SUFC has been run we don't appear on the list. That is maybe thanks to the £5m and whatever security is attached to it. It will be some time before you can look back objectvely at what kind of job the current custodian of the club makes of the job. In the meantime we have a club, players, ground and a bit of hope and ambition and just maybe have navigated what have been perilous times for many clubs and businesses.

This is why we should feel frustrated that our club has to battle on with a large debt and trying to keep the show on the road when all those other clubs have been able to just write of millions and then end up in the Premier League (Southampton and Hull) and Championship. They should all have been demoted to the lowest division the same as Rangers were in Scotland. Clubs like us have had to suffer indirectly while this racket has been allowed to continue.

Administrators don't come in and just write of the debt. Southampton were close to being bankrupt until they were bought.

Rangers didn't enter administration, they entered liquidation with everything being sold to a new company.

Yet when he gives information and then circumstances change he then gets called a liar.

I do think we are due some sort of update but I think he is waiting till he has firm information to share.

But apparently, he's got firm information to share ! Sainsbury's haven't bought Prospects and we've bought this dome thingy. Or did Ron buy it ? He released a statement to The Echo, but not to us supporters.

Yes, agreed. But the point being made is that 50 plus clubs have accrued debts that went unpaid while us and other clubs have struggled on without the resources to move to a higher status in the Football League.

He has some information to share, but not regarding the whole picture, so if he came out with that it would only lead to more questions that he doesnt have answers to.

Lets say he knows Sainsbury have pulled out, he could come out and tell us, then we start demanding what the plan is in that case, and that may not be decided yet.

They were still punished via a points deduction, with some even folding.

My problem is with clubs who have rich owners who can just throw money to sign a player and expect instant success. Without going too far off topic, it will be interesting to see how Man City's academy does as they will have to accept sticking with a manager for several seasons.

One thing I hate is this demand for instant success and it seems like a cultural thing too. If I want something, a few clicks online and it will be with me within 24 hours and this seems to transfer to football, especially in this country.

Some clubs will have their limit due to resources and fan base, but this new stadium along with the facilities was meant that we could compete in the Championship. Whether it ever gets built is of course another matter entirely.

It depends who the debt is owed to.
The majority of clubs owe money to unrelated third parties , (or in Ken Bate's case, shell companies set up to accept the write off at a low figure ) which will accept a smaller percentage as better than nothing and hence the CVA is accepted and the club then comes out of administration.

In our case if SUFC were to have sought administration, which btw they havd no reason to , the debt is owed to group companies, which would go bust without the book asset of the debt in full. The insolvency of a parent company would mean that the CVA would be highly unlikely and we would have been unlikely to emerge from Administration.

Rangers were fortunate that the Scottish league does not have the pyramid structure we have here, they may well have ended up restarting in the conference or lower if they had been South of the border

Agreed.

I think the problem is that football is now a business, not a game, with the fans paying a lot of money and players being vastly overpaid - in my opinion.

The more fans have to pay and the more they see the players paid, the higher the expectation level and the lower the tolerance and patience for success.

It's the same with any new player we buy; the more we pay, the higher the fans expectations and the less patient we are if they don't perform. Someone who comes in on a free will be given much more time to develop and gel with the side.

All professional footballers are good, they just need to be given the right environment to play in. Part of that is down to the crowd and is why I think the absolute castigation and abuse of our players that sometimes occurs at the Hall is so, so wrong. We are meant to be supporting the team, not trying to bring it down from within.

You sir are on drugs.

I'm glad you highlighted that phrase. When I read it I suddenly stood up and shouted "Conlon" - quite strange it was. :'(

Ah, now I didn't say all pro footballers play well all the time, did I? :winking:

Anyhow, it's not possible for a pro footballer to be no good, they are too many selection processes for them to go through.
