This maybe the case but ShrimperZone.Com do not want his email posted on here TYVM if people want to find it elsewhere fair enough.

well look on the internet at southend united when ron martin said about the editor at echo, plus my friend is not misinformed, maybe you are colchester fan or friend with the editor?

So how come Geoff Kings response was to admit that monies were owed to the hospice and the club had an obligaton to pay ?

What Ozzer said.

I think Prior should dig deep into his own pockets and match the 10K Ron gave to them. It would be a nice gesture.

There is another thread on this subject Jimbo. But no I'm neither of those things thanks. Witch-hunts against Ron Martin, Geoff King, Martin McNeill, Chris Phillips or the lady who makes the tea are not particularly useful right now.

How does Spinner pay the hospice f the club dont pay him ?

How does he pay them the 10K he promised, when he only made about 4K on the night? And I presume he wanted to keep a share of the proceeds at the very least to cover his expenses.

He should have Little Havens, regardless of what the club did / didn't do, as his deal / contract was with Little Havens. He made a promise and should have stuck to it.

Then he could have gone to the Echo claiming he had paid Little Havens out of his own pocket, but mean old Ron still hasn't coughed up!

That's what I would have done, and I would have given the Echo about 4 or 5 emails / letters I'd sent to the club, together with their responses, to prove that I had chased them a number of times and that they had welched on the deal. In fact the Echo should have asked to see correspondence to back up their allegations.

As a respected ex player, the Echo has the right to take Prior's word in good faith. They need to ask the opposing party (GK in this case) for balance, which they have done. Sorry to say but if all newspapers demanded written evidence on every story they wrote, the paper would either never come out or be about two pages long. To publish in good faith is a legal defence. Like it or not.

At last...a bit of perspective!

Spencer Prior's promise of 10K was between him and Little Havens and he should have settled it. Not the clubs fault that he over estimated takings on the day. He then could have gone to Little Havens and told them of the mistake he made and offered them a smaller donation under the circumstances.

But yes of course the club should have paid him the 4K immediately.

What are you talking about?

If someone takes a newspaper to court (which happens a lot) and all the journalist can say is, 'well he is a respected ex player and we took his word in good faith your honour' will the judge say 'oh that's all right then, it's Spinner, he used to play for them, case dismissed'!

That's naive to say the least. Newspapers regularly record conversations with witnesses, ask for written evidence, put hidden cameras in seedy dungeons (Max Moseley) etc etc..

I know they're a tin pot small fry local paper, but there's no need to act like one. Looks like Ron is demanding more than an apology and it could cost the Echo a lot more than the extra revenue generated from their story, and quite rightly so.

Imagine how you would feel if they (allegedly) made up, or embellished a story about you or your family, and splashed it all over the front of your local paper. Unless of course your mate Dave, from the pub (well respected in the Dog and Duck) gave them the story, then I suppose that would be allright?

The worse thing about the press is when they're forced to apologise, the apology is normally about one hundreth the size of the initial article, and is normally hidden away in a tiny corner of page 13 on a very slow news day.

Having read Ron's diatribe a few times I am inclined to think he doth protest too much, however I would be certain there are great inaccuracies within the Echo article notwithstanding mistaking 4ok for 4k. His generic remark was obvious to me that he meant moronic.

The impression given (to me) on the Little Havens business is that the 10k has come out of RM's pocket and not the clubs. I would also suggest the 200k salary figures are for both players who have gone out on loan.

As the AGM is now underway I guess we will have feedback from our intrepid reporters, and we will then geta better and probably truer perspective of the position the club is in.

The real pity is that had the match been properly planned by Spinner and properly promoted by the Club then I'm sure five or six times as many people would have turned up and the charity could have got a lot more money.

I guess it's fair to say that Spinner won't be our next manager.
