Breaking News Ron Speaks

RM is doing what he does best - PR and BS.. Simple as - everyone knew this statement would be coming out like this.. Predictable. Nice he defends his Pal King as well.

He's come out and stated the club who bid and the bid's value for McCormack to put to bed rumours of a lie.

He's addressed the Spencer Prior situation adequately in my book.

He's addressed why Revell went.

He's part way there in my book. There appear to be no ramifications for King (who, regardless, has to go IMO) and RM skirted around the issue of finances and the new stadium. However, judging by the mood of people going to the AGM tonight, I fully expect some details of that stuff to come out during the course of tonight and tomorrow. So RM's riposte had its good points and its bad points.

I will fully reserve judgement until the AGM is over, and I think other people would do well to do the same, rather than stubbornly side with one camp (with the Echo, against the club in some cases) without knowing the full details. I can see what both sides are saying.

So come on then, chuckles, how has Ron cleared up everything that people have raised over the last few days?? I'm all ears chap.

Dear Mr Ego, he was responding to stories printed in the Echo, not to you. And, he kindly answered a few anyway, such as who put an offer in for Macca and for how much (which you said was probably a lie) and the fact it was Tilly who suggested Revell go out on loan.

If you have any questions you want answered, then send a list to OBL and she will ask them on your behalf.

By the way, say 'Hi' to Noddy when you see him.

What would you have preferred he said then J?

Where's the BS?

He's not been airy fairy about stuff... he's stated things that are quite checkable. If he hadn't then I may agree with you.

As I said to Market Harboro, what would you like to happen and how do you think it can be achieved?

RON SMASH

Had Ron Martin stuck to calmly answering the posers put to him, it would have been a valuable statement. He does blot his copy book with over defensive bordering on paranoid vitriol against the Echo clearly aiming to harm their sales with SUFC fans. Why this could be is not for me to say. It may just be he is a vindictive person.

The Revell business is valuable information, the Prior stuff would be good if he could explain why it took an Echo article for him to stump up the cash. But his credibility will inevitably be subtracted in the eyes of rational thinkers by the attack on a newspaper which, whatever people may believe, has done more than its fair share of promoting the club in the community over the years. Finally, the Martin McNeill comment was untrue and unbelievably childish.

McCormack - no comment.

Overall, the statement does clear a couple of things up, so it's good he came out and said something.

I have been sticking up for Ron Martin all week, but I'd like another statement to just clear up a few things that don't quite add up.

Why did they not pay Prior the small amount of £4000 that has now cost the club a further £10,000 and dragged the clubs good name through the mud.

Why let Geoff King speak to the echo in the first place, the guy is a nightmare and totally out of touch with supporters and the right and wrong things to say.

The local radio station has today said that Tilly has said that Revs was not top of his list to be loaned out. Again a contrast to what Ron has said.

Once and for all, please come out and say if we are in the doo doo financially, we suspect it, all the signs are there, we can take it, we understand it, we just don't like somebody like Geoff King giving us B.S.

Can't make it tonight for family reasons, but if someone would kindly ask any of these questions, it would be much appreciated.

I read this as RM paying £10 from his pocket. I don't think it would come from club funds. Oh to have £10k loose change to hand out!

I may be being cynical here but that's probably what he wanted you to read. He could easily have said "we" instead of "I" there. Part of the Ron PR wagon is to get everyone siding with him and against his foes - in this case the Echo. Can't make him look bad to have fished £10K out of his pocket to help some sick kids can it?

You can't fail to be impressed by it - he could be an excellent Government press spokesman if he wasn't such a top property magnate.

It's true our defence isn't great.

What I think will be interesting is seeing Herd play at left back on Friday. He can't be anywhere near match fit, at least for a L1 game, so will probably look great for 10 mins or so and then understandably fail badly for the rest of the match.

I hope our fans do not get on his back and I hope Tilly isn't looking for an excuse to say 'I told you he wasn't ready for first team football'.

Does Tilly's interview confirm Herd will start then? I assumed with Herd out of favour our defence tomorrow would be either:

RB Sankofa
CB Francis
CB M'voto
LB Barrett

or

RB Sankofa
CB M'voto
CB Barrett
LB Francis

Doesn't really mention the match. I presume that Herd will start so that Francis can stay on the right and Barrett can stay in the middle.

What the 10k Prior promised to pay to Little Havens from his share of the proceeds of a testimonial, even though the takings on the night were only 4K.

The 10K which Ron has kindly paid out of his, or the clubs (same thing really) pocket?

The money for Little Havens which was a deal between Prior and the charity and, shouldn't have had anything to do with Ron or the club?

The only thing the article made Ron do is a good thing. Obviously he has managed to recover something lost through GK's terrible comments, if indeed his words weren't taken out of context, but I wouldn't begrudge him that and, I'm sure neither would Little Havens.

i know. How dare we question anything we're told, eh?

Personally i'm not going to take as gospel any document which describes our defence as "good". We have one centre-half who is half fit, one who has one league start in his career, a midget left back who has been frozen out this season and who looked out of his depth last year, a narcaliptic right back and a much maligned reserve right back who has also been frozen out all season. I doubt even fbm could defend that lot ;)
beefy you know ?@?@ all bout anything - herd looked out of depth when ? Half fit centre back ? Are you available for orient ???

I find your comments bizarre!

A newspaper attacks the management of the club and their integrity and you don't expect a response?

RM has also said that there was no arrangement between the club and Havens to pay them money and the benefit match accrued only £4,000. He pays £10,000 as a gesture, well over the match proceeds, and you say the Echo made him stump up the cash?

You obviously haven't got a clue what the club already does for charity and the community. An unbelievable posting.

So how come Geoff Kings response was to admit that monies were owed to the hospice and the club had an obligaton to pay ?

Once again RM has said we will be signing players when the window opens..
It is always the next transfer window, and we will do everything we can, but we end up with nothing!!
A nice response to the Echo who i am sure we have all beeen on the end of some embellishment..

Ron told everyone that the echo editor is Colchester United fan, I think he is trying to make southend united to look bad, as my friend used to work for the echo and he told him that he hate southend united and colchester united fan, well i will be happy to give out his email address so make his life hell and force him out of job! here is his email address **** , try to make his life hell and get him out of the job!!

Woah there chief.

I know the club does an excellent job in the community, and has particularly done so under Ron Martin's stewardship. If indeed Ron has paid the £10K as a goodwill gesture, it is a heartening one and fair play to him. As for the Echo making him do it, well clearly I can't say that for sure, nobody can. The timing seems strange if they were unable to pay Prior £4K before today.

As for your previous paragraph, I did not say I didn't expect a response. It's to Ron's credit that he has come out and responded to the Echo article. It's a shame for him and the club he left it to GK the previous day as Ron wouldn't have made such a pigs ear of it and this wouldn't have been blown up the way it has.

But the comments about the Echo go beyond defending the club's integrity. Ron has actually come out and said the newspaper is deliberately trying to destroy the club. This is not the case. Therefore, in my opinion, Ron has made himself look rather silly. I challenge you to say that his comments about the Echo are not over the top.

You may find this hard to believe but I have always been a supporter of Ron and think he has done a great job for this football club. But this summer some of his statements do not sit comfortably with me and I will not apologise for scrutinising his comments carefully and with a cynical eye.
