Ron Martin

So where in the West of Southend would you site the new stadium? It is only hypothetical but I am interested? Remember the name is Southend United so it must stay with in the boundaries of this town.

The new site is only slightly to the east of the town compared to Roots Halls so makes the most sense to me and I guess the previous Government officials involved in the many proposals for this land.

Anywhere yon side of Southend adds about half an hour on the journey, road links are poor at present - I did live in Shoebury for 5 years so I do know this to be true. If I could put it somewhere convenient it would be, as someone else has said, around the junction of the 127 and the 130 around the area to the west of the Weir. I'm not saying Basildon would've been a better site, just it had its plus points, nor do I think the boundaries are set in stone in regard to this. Anyway, I understand there's been loads said on this subject already so that's about it as far as I'm concerned, it was all hypothetical.

Basildon would of been a massive catchment area... Southend on the east is only sea sadly fish dont like going to watch football.... so potentially in support moving to Basildon was the best option.....

Anyway back to the subject... Ron Martin is going a good PR job ..... if we get the new ground our potental will be massive

All the sites mentioned above were looked at and for whatever reason werent deemed suitable. Theres a large document on the southend council website somewhere which detailed the reasons these sites were not suitable.

FF was without doubt the right location out of what was available in my opinion.

I reckong about 40 miles north of Aberdeen would be a really good idea!!!

Now now let's not be hasty - we could try a first for football: half of the season's home games up aberdeen way, and the other half in the west of ireland...cup matches can be kept down in essex. fantastic :D

I second that........anyone disgree??? if you do it will make your nose bleed

:finger: :finger: :finger:

We'd have regular Champions League football if we played up in the land of the Sweaty.

lol.......dont really think that we are at the same proffesional level as Aberdeen are, I would say that they are a top 6 CCC side. Good fan base, half decent stadium and very good financial backing in Stuart Milne

I personally don't trust RM. I can't put my finger on it, but as has been said earlier, he isn't doing it for the good of his health.

I'm sure that he will look after SUFC, but after he's looked after himself. The big question is, How much will SUFC make out of the whole FF thing & how much will RM make out of FF?

I'm sorry but this makes no sense. Is Ron Martin supposed to invest 10 years of his time working full time and more for most of it, taking stick off of fans based on a series of hunches and guesswork, having police raid his premises without any reasonable charge and have to rely on a novice of a manager to try and save a sinking ship of a club already in debt in the interests of charity???

If Ron Martin were not to make a tidy profit, he'd never have taken over the club. Had he not taken over the club, we would have never benefitted from any financial stability, any plans to move on to a new stadium, any of his professional ability and we would certainly not be where we are now.

If you want to criticise how he goes about his business then fine but for ****'s sake, don't pretend that he should be saving our club out of the goodness of his heart.

Anyone would think that we are where we are now completely by chance and Tilson and Martin have been lucky passengers by the amount of personal credit they get in some quarters.

I think it would have been nice if Ron had maybe finished his speech with a musical number.

A lot of people have said that Tilson and Brush may have felt uncomfortable and undermined by Ron's speech.

Imagine though if Ron had finished it of by asking Tilson and Brush to step into the centre circle then and unleashed a rendition of 'Wind beneath my wings'.

I certainly think that Tilson and Brush would have appreciated the gesture and it could have built a few bridges and knocked down a few walls.

An opportunity missed by PR-meister Ron?

Build it near the A130/A127 junction and we could become Benfleet Dons. We could build a Travelodge next door to help finance the stadium

It never stopped "Billy the fish" playing in goal....:)

Indeed the club has to stay in Southend, Id be gutted if it moved to Rayleigh/Basildon.

It would have been nice to have it around Strawberry Fields for better access but fossetts Farm is a decent location.

I think people forget where this club was heading a little over 4 years ago, look at the investment that has taken both on and OFF the pitch, for those that claim RM is in SUFC JUST for his own I say your wrong. Many just look at whats happening on the pitch at first team level but the club is growing and had realised its mistakes from the past and is investing in the future. For the first time in my memory I see serious consideration to the youth set up, money, time & effort is being ploughed in as we want to have academy status. Commercially the club has the support of many local companies and a greater number of individuals. While its hard to change Roots Hall much, the whole matchday experience is so much better than 5 to 10 years ago, as the slogan goes "its more than just football". We have gone through a mini blip but still half a season to go and there is lts to look forward to, 4th round of the FA Cup for sure, wasnt that long ago we never got past the first round.
