Ron Martin

Tilly N Brush

First XI
have a lot of respect for that man hes a good chairman and tells it how it is
good to see our chairman speaking the fans thoughts. Interesting that he felt the need to come out today and speak. One point he made was that there would be changes made in the transfer window.

THANK YOU there is a god:angel:

I had some ignorant ****s behind me who were moaning that he had come out... I'd much rather have a chairman that comes out and explains whats happening than have one who sits on his **** in the warmth of a corporate suite eating prawn sandwiches, IF he turns up. Or even worse, a crook.

Fair play to him, didn't have to do that at all and showed a great deal of commitment.

Do you think that he asked Tilly if he would mind coming out and saying that "he will not put up with it"? I hope he did, but whether that was the case or not, I'd imagine Tilly wasn't comfortable with it.
Personally, I thought it Ron's speech wasn't needed. Yes, we were poor against Bristol Rovers, but why the chairman felt the need to address the matter publicly I don't know.
The cynic in me wonders if the negative chants towards him over the Eastwood cash on New Years day got to him, he didn't like it and he wanted to be a fan favourite again.

He said, lasdt weeks performance wasn't good enough and no battle, something he never expects from a Tilson team. He's backing the manger with transfer funds and that he urged us to sing up for our side.

Oh, and wished us a happy new year.

Good o...thanks...

Its good he acknowledged the lack of effort and really the fans disappointment in the performance. Not many chairmen/women probably bother. Easier to sit in the cumfiness of their nice seats.

Even tho I missed it, I think it shows that he is bothered about things and not just there to sit in the directors box and look good. Fair play to the man IMO.

Anyone share the jist of what was said?

I didnt hear it cos I was giving out them bam bams....

That tuesday's performance wasn't what you'd expect to see from a Steve Tilson side, that it wasn't acceptable that Tilly & Brush thought it was unacceptable but that there would be changes in th transfer window and that the team needed the fans to stick with them if we are to all move forward.

Or what Shrimpled said.

When we had our meeting with Ron last evening we encouraged him to go out on the pitch again as he did prior the stadium vote at the council offices..He was uphappy with things himself as were alot of fans recently.. I think it was great that he went out and voiced himself as one of us..As far as the Eastwood cash is concerned this I explained in another thread if you read all on here. Ron's words......"Relegation last year had cost the club 2.5 mil....there has not been much change with staff but we have brought players...and attendances are down" ....it dosent take a Genius to see where 1.5 mil goes..Yet he is still buying new players.

100% behind RM. i thought it was a brave but necessary move. yes things are not going great at the mo. whether thats down to t&b, the players or collective he has the right to do what he likes and say what he feels. it needed saying and the players and management now know that he will not accept performances like we have been putting in and if they continue he will try to bring in players that will produce. must add though, i thought we were poor again today particularly 1st half. credit the 2nd half where we improved but against a very poor daggers side. utb

Nice to see the chairmen address the fans publicly but he was and is worried about losing fans, from average gate of 10,000 we had 6,300 today and approx 750 were away fans. I think the chants about "where's the Eastwood money gone" shocked him.

If Ron does spend the money as he says he will, the pressure is on Tilly as he has to make it count, in general the past signings have been hit & miss so far

I actually think your post is spot on mate.

I would have thought that T and B would have been extremely uncomfortable with what Ron said before the game, and I too, wonder whether or not it was necessary to almost air our dity linen in public - i.e. in front of the Dagenham fans.

I have a lot of time for Ron, he has done wonders for this club, but he is an excellent PR machine, and will never miss an opportunity to get some positive rep with the fans if it arises. I

He is the chairman, and it is him and the shareholders who are funding the club, so he has every right to speak his mind, a quality I admire in anyone, so from that point of view, I suppose I have to say it was a good thing that he did.

I also agree with the cynic in you - The match against Rovers was the first time in Tilly's tenure that there have been negative chanting from the fans towards the players and the club as a whole, and I would imagine Ron would have felt uncomfortable about that, which is perhaps another factor in the decision to speak out today.

Whatever the reason, yoiu have to hand it to him, I think he is alone amongst football chairman when it comes to coming out on the pitch and telling it how it really is, and life would certainly be much more dull without him - Good old Uncle Ron :)

It is noted on here that Mr Martin is very good on the PR front .

He has got supporters behind him very quickly and effectively and spent next to nothing in the process

He promises to let Tilly bring in new faces . This is clearly going to be more costly and he needs to deliver on his promises . To get in players of the right quality we are going to have to be more flexible otherwise we will end up with little improvement on what we already have .

He acknowledges that his failure to keep the club in the CCC has cost £2.5 m - many of us were last year pleading with him to give Freddy a better deal and strenghten the squad . It seems the message is now finally getting home so lets keep our fingers crossed .

C'mon Ron -splash the cash - you know it makes sense !

I am sure all fans would agree, Ron Martin coming out on the pitch to explain and apologise was amazing.

Most club chairman would have just sacked the manager and hid behind them to save their own necks, but not Ron.

Respect where it is due. Let get behind this team. They may not be the best but they are our's. UTB!!!!!!!!!!!
