RIP Sir David Amess

I did see him at the occasional game at RH. Which must be part of the Southend West constituency?

Surely us shrimpers are due some good news at some stage.

Shocking , shocking news! Doing his job and trying to help others! LBC have had extensive coverage all day since the attack. So many people from all political hues saying what a decent guy he was. Council leader interviewed and mentioned us big time in a local project he was trying to see through to completion.

Loved Southend. This is a very sad day.

This is absolutely awful news.
This man woke up this morning expecting to do another days work and probably said to his wife”see you later” only, he will now never return. The guy only went to work.

What is this world of ours becoming ??

That's a very sobering thought.

Politically, Sir David and myself were occasionally of opposite views and occasionally in agreement but I always found him to be a respectful and pleasant person to deal with.
He undoubtedly promoted Southend at every opportunity and had public service at the heart of what he did and, indeed, lost his life while carrying out that duty.

On a day like this the despicable act to which he was victim and the loss of a man from his community, his wife and his children shocks us all to the core.
That shock and our sympathies should transcend any political differences.
My deepest sympathy and condolences to all his family, friends and colleagues at this terrible time.

Shocking news, as a Basildon man in my late 40s I grow up with David as my Basildon MP for many years, this world is messed up.
RIP David.

My old Nan used to say there is nothing wrong with our beautiful world it's the humans that spoil it.

Proven once again today, simply awful news, a disgraceful unnecessary tragedy on all our doorsteps.

My sincere condolences to David's family and friends and anyone who knew him. RIP

David was the first candidate i voted for in 1983 when i lived in Pitsea and he was elected, somewhat surprisingly as MP for Basildon. Perhaps in the intervening 38 years our political views had changed, but he always struck me as a very decent human being and I have found that subsequently he campaigned for many good causes. Leigh-on-sea is on the map today for all the wrong reasons. RIP.

I don’t live in his constituency but it is clear to me today just how loved and dedicated a public servant he was. Regardless of anyone’s politics, nobody deserves the fate that he suffered today. I pray that he and his family will find some peace in knowing how well regarded he was. I cannot begin to imagine the pain that his family must be going through right now. My thoughts and prayers go out to them. May he rest in peace.
