I didn't know Harry, but always enjoyed reading his posts.
10 pages so far shows the feeling that everyone had for this man.
My condolences go out to his family, and those of you who were his friends.
We were his 'zone family'.

Rest in peace fellow shrimper.

The thing with Harry was that I think he regarded everyone on Shrimperzone as his friends.

I feel utterly compelled to come out of my SZ exile to post in this thread.

I didn't know him personally and I never once met him in person, but as I was a poster on here since the very, very early days, he felt like someone I did know. And to me, when that's the case, that paints a picture of a decent, warm person when even though you don't really know them, you do. He was a constantly clever, insightful and thoughtful poster in amongst a world of nonsense. I am totally and utterly stunned at this news and didn't quite believe Napster's tweet this morning when I saw it. It really does prove that life is short, you never know what's round the corner and life is most cruel to the good ones.

RIP canveyshrimper, I hope your chosen team in heaven don't get spanked too often.

So sad. Did not know him (though recall seeing him often) but he always seemed to be one of the good guys on SZ (there are many I would add) and having just checked he was the last person to 'green' me.

RIP sir.

I just had to add my thoughts to this thread.

Since hearing the awful news this morning I have been in a state of shock & totally stunned. I can't claim to be a great friend or close to him, but when so many people write with such genuine warmth & feeling as people have on here or Facebook, he wasn't short of friends.

It will seem odd not walking past him in the East Blacks and not see him & exchange hellos.

The world is a poorer place today without Harry.

Rest in peace H.

I feel very priveleged to have met Harry, having enjoyed the Eggheads adventure with him. He was the sort of person to really make an indelible impression on you. Right from the moment we first met, he offered warmth, friendship and good humour. He had the knack of making you feel at ease and in very good spirits with his constant witticisms. He was a gentleman and an inspiration - more of us should live our lives like Harry: open to others, offering the hand of friendship and always looking on the bright side of life.

Harry stole the show on Eggheads, and I remember the tension I felt sitting in the studio as we watched him answer question after question correctly - more than actually got shown in the final edited broadcast version - as he eventually won his round, the only one of us to do so. The day after the broadcast I had lots of lovely comments from pupils at the school where I teach, with most of them adding "but that Harry is a legend!".

And that, I feel, is what he is, an absolute legend. Loved by all who met him and appreciated by so many who didn't. The Zone will be an emptier place without him.

Rest in peace, Harry, you're not gonna get spanked any more. :'(

Like many others on here I didn't know him personally, but when skimming through a long thread, Canveyshrimpers posts were amongst those to pay proper attention to.

Rest in peace.

Must admit guys I didn't know Harry, but it has been a tearful pleasure to read comments from the people that admired him so much.

RIP fellow Shrimper

As you can see, although I have been an avid reader of this site for a long time I have rarely posted. Over the years of reading others' posts you feel you get to know the person though, even if you have never met them. I always enjoyed reading Harry's posts because they often displayed a gentle sense of humour and/or a considerable knowledge of SUFC back in the day when I was a regular at the Hall (from this thread I have learnt that we were about the same age). Most of all I could tell that Harry had a warm heart and there are not enough people in the world like that.

I feel very saddened by this news so those of you that knew him must be devastated.

R.I.P. Harry.
I echo these thoughts, as this is also how I feel. RIP Canveyshrimper, you will be missed:(

Apologies if this has already been covered in a previous post , but think it would be a nice tribute to Harry if someone took over his 'spanked' catchphrase - maybe one of the Mods ?

Personally, I think that would be wrong, it was originally A Century United's catchphrase anyway, Harry took it over when Tom disappeared from the board for a long time.

For a lasting tribute, I support the earlier idea of re-naming The Pub again to reflect the passing of two lovely gents.

I didnt know Canvey Shrimper, so possibly not for me to have an opinion, but I did know Homer, who I miss very much on matchdays along with a lot of other people, particularly in the Naval Club. I would personally like to see Homer's pub stay as it is as a lasting tribute to him and create a new and unique lasting tribute to Canvey Shrimper, who I suspect will be missed as much by his many friends and family. Because of this, as someone suggested earlier on this thread, I would prefer that we re-name the pre-match thread to something along the likes of the "we're gonna get spanked" thread - so we can debate about how badly in Canvey Shrimpers memory...

But that's what I mean, it WASN'T his comment originally, it was ACU's. Harry was a good mod on this forum and I believe he deserves more than just a thread title anyway. He frequently drank in the Spread on matchdays and I just think that's more fitting.

Harry had no immediate family so it would be appreciated if, when funeral details are known, as many Zoners and friends as possible can attend to pay their last respects.

He will not be forgotten by his friends on here Ken and we will all make sure that he gets the send off that he deserves I for one will most certainly assist with this as I know he would have done the same for me

Harry loved and was the font of all knowledge on most sports. The alll sports forum could be renamed to Harrys corner.

Right, where do I start sorry my views are only just about to be expressed! of all the days to find out about this sad news I was having my own heart wrenching time at my uncles funeral in Clacton!

Anyway, words can't really express how much of a good and genuine guy Malcolm was, I can't pretend to be a life long friend or anything like that but what his death is a testament to is how things like ShrimperZone bring people together and open doors for new friendships.

I got to know Malcolm through SZ in the 03/04 days I can recall my first memory of taking to him, he was always kind and friendly towards me always talking about my 'one liners' and genuinely taking an interest in what I had to say, this was Malcolm down to a tee!

It is now in my time supporting Southend the 3rd what I would call major blow to us Southend fans as a whole, whilst I wish ever single blues fan that passes on the up most respect Malcolm in my view joins the likes of Bob Evans and Graham Jolly to become the 3rd totally gutting loss we have seen in recent times!

Malcolm I loved you witty banter and you always good and keeping a cool head and showing a dignified and gracious persona whether that be on this forum or in real life!

I will dedicate this game on Saturday to you mate, the drum will beat and every beat will signify a moment you have touched a persons heart and made this world a better place, and even then beating for a whole 90 mins would not even make a dent into the times you have!

Rest In Peace Malcolm

Southend Forever!

Scott x

P.s Will attend the funeral when arrangements are made.

As others have said, I didn't know Harry personally only from his persona on here. No pre match thread was ever complete without his 'catchphrase'. RIP and my thoughts are with his family and friends.
I hope you don't mind but I used your post to echo exactly my thoughts. RIP Harry.

Actually, before ACU I think it was steveh1520 back in 2000/1 days,
