SUFC: The Future RH Redevelopment

I don’t have any examples but I’d personally love to see something steep and intimidating, with an upper tier that sits slightly over the lower tier so even those in the higher seats can be closer to the pitch. Like the south upper but without impacting the visibility at the back of the lower tier.

Anyone know any examples?

A scaled down version of La Mestalla?

Holds about 8,000 that stand at Fulham. So whilst at the top end of what we may go to, 6-8,000 has been quoted by Tom as the ballpark we are looking at for East stand capacity.
and I think that's the right ambition given the restricted capacity in the west and south, meaning that if the long term plan is for RH to eventually become a fully modernised 20k capacity stadium with 4 new or upgraded stands, then we do need the East contributing maybe 40% of that.

How about a smaller version of the Estádio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán where Sevella FC play, but with the obvious inclusion of a roof to accommodate the British climate of rain, rain and more rain intertwined with drizzle with the odd spot of sunshine.

Although perhaps not for those with a fear of falling

Great shout. I’ve already forgiven you for your South Upper comments. 😁

I’m heading to Valencia on a stag do on Thursday, I’ll see if I can check it out for research purposes…

This is from 2 years ago. The pics don’t do it justice.

It would be a dream to have that style (steep, imposing, overhanging the pitch) as our new East Stand.

One of the most surprising aspects of the stand behind the goal, is how sharp and narrow it is. Like a thin wedge. It seems to take up very little room. I would like to think something like that was possible for the new North Bank, considering we don’t have too much space to work with, but I’m sure @Reefs will bring me back to reality and say it’s not possible/plausible 😭😂

I agree with @South Bank Hank in that I hope we go for something steep, close to the pitch to give that fear factor.
Indeed, anyone with vertigo will be very fearful.

Hypothetically speaking it doesn't matter how steep it is because the depth of the tread still needs to be a minimum measurement, so you won't gain any space by doing this.

In terms of what you can get away with in the UK, the absolute maximum is a rake angle of 35 degrees - over 25 degrees, you start to see P-rails (grab handles) aligning the gangways and restrictions on the number of rows.

I know it mostly falls on the plain, but.....
Rain you say. Annual rainfall in Seville is stated at 502 mm. In Southend it's 525 mm. Not a lot in it really. So do we actually need a roof at RH?

By comparison believe that Wycombe stand holds a little under 5,000..

Ultimately, the design of the stand will be predicated on the findings of the feasibility study, so posting photos of nice-to-haves is great, but ultimately flies in the face of how the actual process will work from this point onwards.
The feasibility study is critical - if you put good quality research in, you get a quality brief out the other end.

Off topic, but no idea why they’re relocating. It’s still one of, if not the best stadium, in the world.

Obviously it would be nice to have something like that - or even a similar design - although I really don’t see that happening.
That relocation is partially keeping my monthly wages coming in so I'm all for it (even though the fans aren't)

Out of interest what takes priority. Do you design the seating view and then kit out the useable space underneath / behind it with other things such as hospitality, club offices, club shop, venue hire etc to fit around that or vice versa?
