''Southend United are set to reward the loyalty of Season Card Holders who renew for next season.

Following feedback regarding the announced prices earlier this month we are keen to reward fans that continue to support the Club next season.

Fans who are adult Season Card Holders this season and who renew for the 2011/12 campaign will receive a £20 discount on next seasons brand new away shirt as long as they renew before 3pm on 22nd April.''

Well it's a start isn't it?

It depends if you were going to buy a shirt or not.

It's actually a vaguely ingenious ploy for more money. A £20 discount voucher on one item seems like a good deal, but the club still nets £20/30 that it might not have done anyway (I've no idea what % cut we receive now that the store is franchise, just using the RRP figures as a baseline). I tend to buy a shirt each year anyway as I don't mind doing so, so it's good news for me on a personal level.

That shouldn't, however, detract from the offer which isn't exactly necessary and, at the very least, shows the club have listened to some of the criticism they've met for the price rise.

Next announcement; Pre-order your 2011/12 away shirt now retailing at £59.99.

People will no doubt moan as usual but I'll stand out from the crowd and say well done to the club for this. Good idea and they deserve some praise for it.

Take a bow son!! :hilarious:

On a serious note, it's a move that the club should be applauded for. I know it's only a token gesture but it's a start. I was going to renew both our season tickets anyway and would have bought a shirt so it's all good for me. (unless it's that pink shirt!!!)

I personally think it is a nice gesture from the club. However it can be seen as clever plan to generate more cash, however I guess that this will probably sway people to buy a shirt.
I don't think it's desperation at all, it's just another idea, that is probably going to work!

Good move for once and something they should think about for all the perks we lost out on previously from the retail side of things. I'd personally have preferred them to offer it off of either the home or away shirt because I have a horrible feeling it's going to be that pink thing! I usually alternate buying shirts and this season should be an away one for me so we'll see, but definitely a step in the right direction.

But Kay, you can also get £10-£15 off anything else in the club shop?

Id rather those who made the effort to make the trips to Crewe and Accrington get rewarded rather then us being rewarded for buying something we would/have already brought

Hadn't read the whole thing Smiffy, if that's the case then all well and good!

Wouldn't be happy with that at all. There are plenty of us who would love to have the time and money to do all those trips but can't. That's far too selective and imo the club's loyalty should be to its STHs first and foremost.

Cap system old boy?

The discussion needs to be had.

Does'nt this cut the revenue of the shop (a different organisation to the club) instead of the club giving back something to the season card holders?

I would say that is a 100% certainty.
