Breaking News Retained/Released list - Wood and Waldron released

I’m not saying others were blameless, Walker has also been bang average. I’ve read about Bonnes mental health and sympathise with him but we arent a charity case. Look at the sides that have got promoted recently they all have he genuine goal scorers. This is something we don’t have. I’d just about keep Bonne as back up if we could off load hopper but you can’t just get rid of players that easily. But there must be better out there
If you look at last season, York had the top goalscorer, but then, the two teams that actually went up had one goalscorer each in the top 10 (6th and 7th place) with 18 goals each... just one more than our own GSM.

So, Barnet's total tally was 97, with their top scorer notching 18.

In my opinion, we need goals from all around the pitch / players, not one specific goal machine. What happens if that goal machine has a loss in form or gets injured?

QPR did indeed but my QPR season ticket holder mate reckons he was a total waste of money.

What page did he turn, from my seat in the stadium I must of missed it!!

He is not solely to blame, Walker has missed a lot of chances also as well as Hopper but he has definitely been the worst offender over the course of the season.

I think Kendall has the worst miss I've ever scene earlier in the season - I think it was about 10 mins after Walker(?) had just achieved the same feat.

Waldron and Wood will definitely be released and seems Ralph and Bridge have both triggered extensions, so agree with @TheSouthendUnitedRunner that Bonne is the only one we don’t really know what will happen with. I’m a bit torn really. If we could move Walker on I’d have Bonne as a 5th striker all day long. But if we’re going to run with 5 strikers next season, it worries me if Hopper, Walker and Bonne make up three of those given the lack of goals. I like Hopper and he has his value, albeit not scoring frequently. But having 3 out of 5 strikers who don’t look like scoring regularly enough would be a worry, particularly as that was often our downfall this season.

I think Walker will be good next year. I know a lot of people see it differently but he has all the attributes for me. Remember he was scoring pre-season then got set back by injury. Hope Kendall continues to get better and if we are making more chances then Walker will come on too. You don’t get a move to League 1 not being able to finish. The team needs to be better at controlling games and creating chances. That’s as important as a mythical 25+ goalscorer.

Hope you’re right! I think there’s a player in there for sure and he’s shown some glimpses of that over the season. Just really hasn’t properly clicked for him up to now.

For me Kendall will get better with wise head around him (Bonne?). I would keep Bonne, useful to have on the bench for his sh**housery if nothing else! I think Hopper is a luxury and for me cannot be justified simply because of his excellent defending at corners/free kicks. Walker frustrates me, every game I look out for the inevitable (and unnecessary) foul he concedes early on, and this applies whether he starts or comes on as a sub - he did this at Wembley too and it just gives the opposition an easy free kick and ends any attacking momentum we may have built up. I'm surprised none of the coaching team have spoken to him about this, or if they have its fallen on deaf ears. Ultimately unless we can spot/get lucky with a 20 goal striker this year, we are going to have to expect more from the existing squad and that includes all positions (with the exception of GSM's!).

I'm not sure I fully understand why people want Bonne out, he's improved massively this season and is clearly a leader on the pitch.

We also need to remember that there is no real window in non league so if we bring in another couple of strikers to replace Wood and Waldron then if Walker & Bonne aren't getting game time they can leave at that point. Letting key players go without a replacement with a squad as small as ours would be a mistake.

The problem with your scenario of 'letting go' of Bonne & Walker mid-season is that it would likely cost money and/or require them to have another club lined up. Bonne we have the option of releasing at no cost now. And one would assume if he is released it's because the mgmt think/know they can bring better in.

We probably have space for 5 strikers. Bonne is out of contract so is the easy option. Our up turn in form at the end of the season coincided with Bonne being dropped, although he did create chances when coming on as a sub.

For me though, he got put through by Coker at Wembley and his touch ended up being a back pass. A few minutes later he was in an excellent position and couldn’t decide whether to cross or shoot and I don’t think he knows now which it was as the ball rolled to the keeper.

Oldhams sub, received a long ball after outmuscling goodliffe and then rounded hayes with fantastic composure.

So why do people say we shouldn’t keep Bonne on? Because there are probably better players we could sign. That said, Maher and co know the market and what’s available more than me
