Breaking News Retained/Released list - Wood and Waldron released

A day ago Bonne’s wife commented on his post saying “we go again next season”, so something must be planned to be on the table for him.
It`s a big decision to make for Maher and co, do they gamble and think that Bonne will come good. Personally I would move on, it`s a slot that we need for another striker. I`m also concerned that Walker was signed on a long contract, not the same player since his injury and I see a lot of people backing him to get lots of goals next season, I`m not so sure. Kendal I think will be a hit next season, we just need that striker that can make a goal on their own and return 15-20 goals a season. We came out of the embargo last season and seem to go into a panic buy situation, which didn`t really do us any favours, IMHO. We have no excuses this time, and one would hope that targets have been identified, early for us to have most, if not all our squad in place and ready to go for pre-season. We shouldn`t be waiting for other clubs to do their business and picking up the scraps later on. We also need to be getting Roots Hall back to being a fortress again, if we can win the majority of our home games, we seem to do well away from home with the usual great backing of the fans. Consistency is the key, let`s see if we can carry on the second half of last season through into this next season. Up the Blues

Did he, how many goals did he score. That chance he messed up at Wembley when it was 2-1 may have cost us promotion. If we are pinning our goes on Hopper and Bonne as part of our strike force then I’d question our recruitment. I’d take one or the other and as Hopper is under contract I’d expect Bonne to leave. Not that I don’t like him, just would hope we can do better

Blaming Bonne for us not going up! When Walker missed a decent chance, Goodliffe gifted them a penalty and 2 goals in combination with Hayes... (Granted, he should've done better with his shot).

Bonne has struggled mentally over the past few years, if he isn't on much money, we should give him the opportunity to shine.

Hopper is a must offload in my eyes, 1.5 year contract was terrible business.

The issue with Bonne is he has actually had the chances to score around 10 goals but time and time again he misses great chances. He was also very lucky with his penalty at Forest Green as it only went in off the keepers back. The club can 100% do better with the money he’s on.
What’s he on?

5 years is a long time in football. He is a shadow of the player he once was.
He was still playing in the Championship in the 22/23 season.,

Trouble is our wildly unrealistic expectations. On this thread already there is lament that Oldhams 5th choice striker and Wealdstone loanee is likely beyond our means. When you are shopping in Poundland it seems to me Bonne is worth keeping- but if he goes and we bring in someone who has never scored goals or someone from the South Beds Combination who has then I would be worried. If we suddenly have £££ and bring in some who guarantees goals fair play.

Will be interesting to see if they also announce if any youth players get a professional contract and also what the situation with Faulkner and MacDonald is.

I’m not saying others were blameless, Walker has also been bang average. I’ve read about Bonnes mental health and sympathise with him but we arent a charity case. Look at the sides that have got promoted recently they all have he genuine goal scorers. This is something we don’t have. I’d just about keep Bonne as back up if we could off load hopper but you can’t just get rid of players that easily. But there must be better out there

How was Hayes to blame?

Strikers scored loads when I played RWB in that league 🤔

I’d keep Bonne, there is something about him, especially out wide in a front three with Leon on the left. Hopper does the dirty work at both ends so keep him, Kendall has pace to hurt teams. If those four can all pick up 10 goals each, with a 5th forward (Spassov from Slough has been mentioned) as back up/development then we’ll have a decent front line.

Walker has to go, it’s not worked out for him, wish him all the best though

Shame he is under contract until 2026, another mistake giving him a 2 year contract. We need goals if we are ever going to get out of the NL. Loyalty and hope that these players are going to provide it will bite Maher and co on the a*se. Waldron and Bonne gone, bring in 2 new strikers. I agree with you though Walker should of been given a 1 year contract and we could have off loaded him now. I think he will have more injury problems.

My mistake, maybe get Walker out on loan free up some budget? Waldron goes.

If cancelling contracts weren’t an issue etc I Would genuinely get rid of Hayes, bridge , Miley, Husin, wood , Waldron, Bonne , hopper , walker , as well as goodliffe going back to col u as well. Still think Crowther could be a good CB in a 2 but not a 3 , but can see him leaving as well
Really, we would not have anyone lefr

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Look back on the season prediction thread and almost everyone has Walker as our top scorer for the season.

If he had been offered a one year deal and banged in 15/20 goals we would be up in arms now that he may just be picked up by someone else.

I still hope he manages to get a move though as he has been disappointing to say the least.
