Replacements for Tilson!!

I still can't believe he signed that joker Eastwood in the first place. We don't want untried kids, here. We want proven 20-goal-a-season strikers.

Exactly, as Alan Hansen once said....."you will win nothing with Kids"

lol

Yes yes yes but apart from saving us from relegation, twice taking us to a national final, winning the league 2 play offs, winning a championship, taking us on cup runs where we beat the arguably the best team in the world and making us a million or so on a local lad...what the **** has Tilson ever done for us?

I do that all the time on FM07.

I don't see Tilly boasting about how he beat Nottingham Forest 3-0 with Bristol City.

I certainly will have issues with people around me if they start slating Tilly, overall we have a very strong squad, mentoring needed maybe regarding sub strategies etc..., and also more ruthless in his team selections, so what if the regulars throw their toys out of the pram, the club has desires/goals, lets meet them not the players demands!!!!

:
Mark Stimson who had great results with Grays and appears to be doing well at Stevenage. There is obviously a gap between Conference and league 1 but Stimson would be a credible choice.

Martin Allen would be another realistic candedate he was unfairly sacked at Leicester dispite having an OK start. He also appears to be respected by a number of other Managers / players. IMO he would not be "one of the lads" this is something that Tilson must learn!

Mike Newell is also another Manager that IMO would be considered. Newall did well at Luton and has a proven record.

no harm mate but Newell has had allegations of corruption levelled against him, which should be a concern. Meanwhile, Martin Allen is a bullying mentalist and Stimson is NON LEAGUE - brilliant !

It's not what Steve has achieved that matters, it's all in the past.
It's what he is going to achieve that matters now.

Unless you're psychic then how can anyone know what he'll achieve now or in the future?

Of the three statements there, you'd have to stick a big, fat ALLEGEDLY next to the "Newell - Corrupt" one. The other two comments would definitely stand up to cross-examination in a court of law though.

I'd say there's also nothing wrong with someone proven in Non-League. Better than someone who has failed time and again in the League. Bottom line is we need a good manager. Bottom, bottom, bottom line is... we've got one!

Tamsin Archer of Sleeping Satellite fame;
Beaky from Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Titch;
or former World Middleweight Boxing Champion, Terry Downes

Names and reputations mean nothing. When we were looking to replace Wignall and Ron Martin made it public that he wanted Ian Atkins (where is he now?), several names were thrown into the hat. How many suggested Steve Tilson?.

How can people think replacing Tilson with someone like Martin Allen or Mike Newell would be a good thing.

Both of them are controversial headline merchants, Allen's idea of motivation is to shout really loudly and Newell hardly creates harmony where he goes.

Warnock is really going to want to come to Southend isnt he.

If we lose our next 10 matches and are rock bottom and do consider a manager change we will be in exactly the same place we are with a striker. Everyone here will be expecting a proven name and we will get someone unkown without any pedigree. Then there will be more whining than we have now.....

I like Warnock (I know a lot of people don't) but there's not a chance in hell that he'd come here. We're the wrong end of the country for him and are at least one division below where he wants to be at this stage of his career and he said as much recently when linked to another lower-league club.

Newell & Allen are both more realistic names were there to be a vacancy here but don't both of them sum up exactly why we shouldn't get rid of Tilly? Both are good, young, English managers and coaches. And both are desperate to get to the top and don't mind which club they have to go through to get there. Newell jumped from Hartlepool the second the Luton job became available and Allen seems to go through a couple of clubs a year.

Without dragging this into yet another debate about the pros and cons of sticking with Tilson, a change of manager could well provide a short term boost in our fortunes but you can't run a club by only looking at the short-term. The project here under Steve Tilson, Paul Brush, Ricky Duncan & Ron Martin is about the long-term of Southend United and a couple of late goals at the end of the Brighton game shouldn't be able to jeopardise that.

For what it's worth I suspect that our next manager is already at the football club.

Kevin Maher? - that will be popular on this board.:D :D

Pointless topic... Tilson is Mr Southend and will never get the boot. So give it a rest and just support the club. Just cos we went up as champions at the 1st hurdle u all expect it again. Everyone was quite happy with mid table when we came up from league 2 under tilson. Now U expect us to win Everything. U all live in a dream world. Things will come good and i believe we will be in the play offs come may. Up the blues!!!

no harm mate but Newell is allegedly corrupt

How is he corrupt?
I seem to recall he spoke out against corruption in the game. The only real controversy i can think off is his outburst against women lino's/refs. He was left with a mamouth task at luton after the club sold their best players and failed to re-invest. (sounds familiar?). I like him. But I also like ST and feel he has earned the right to get his act together unless the losing streak trundles on unabated.

I believe that there are a sizable minority, or even a majority, of fans who won't turn on Tilly no matter how badly things get, and certainly not this season. If that is the case it could lead to a poisonous atmosphere at Roots Hall if things don't improve on the pitch.

I certainly know that the first person to chant 'Tilson Out' in my section of the South is going to get both barrells from me and I doubt I'm the only one.

Most definitely not the only one!
Who on earth would we get in better than Tilly? If we sacked him, I can see him being snapped up by another club and left to rue the day we let him go.
Managers with such passion for the club they manage are rarer than Freddy Eastwoods.
No more brown trouser reactions. We have to have stability and I can't think of a better team to stick with in all the years I've been a supporter.
We should look to nurture Maher and Barrett for management after they finish playing as I feel these two would offer similar qualities.
