Replacements for Tilson!!

RPG

Guest
I for one do not at present want Tilson to go so soon in to the season - however if results do not improve by mid season I believe the majority of fans would want to see him go.
Tilson had two great seasons but appears to have not improved as a manager over the past year. I believe tactically he still has alot to learn and also needs to improve - scouting (which I believe would be under his control) and become tougher ie. team selection.
There are many Managers who realistically could be considered these include:

Mark Stimson who had great results with Grays and appears to be doing well at Stevenage. There is obviously a gap between Conference and league 1 but Stimson would be a credible choice.

Martin Allen would be another realistic candedate he was unfairly sacked at Leicester dispite having an OK start. He also appears to be respected by a number of other Managers / players. IMO he would not be "one of the lads" this is something that Tilson must learn!

Mike Newell is also another Manager that IMO would be considered. Newall did well at Luton and has a proven record.

I believe that there are a sizable minority, or even a majority, of fans who won't turn on Tilly no matter how badly things get, and certainly not this season. If that is the case it could lead to a poisonous atmosphere at Roots Hall if things don't improve on the pitch.

I certainly know that the first person to chant 'Tilson Out' in my section of the South is going to get both barrells from me and I doubt I'm the only one.

If worse comes and Tilson is sacked(Not saying I want him sacked), if Neil Warnock is still around I would hope Ron would go in for him. Dont really like the bloke but cant deny what he has achieved with lower league teams, Im sure my opinion could change pretty quick if it was him to get us back up to the Championship

Or Mark Stimson, a man that said we were "not good enough" to sign Dennis Oli and was a ****e player in a ****e team when he played here.

Kermit the Bleedin frog.
Mr Blobby (again) actually he did rather a good job last time.
Brian from Big Brother.

I'm sorry but I really don't see that discussing this is helpful. After what I read about what happened to Maher at Brighton and I'm sure the management and players read this site their trust and morale of the supporters must be on the floor.
I'm not going to go over the reasons why the current management duo MUST NOT get the sack again as this has been done to death. We will give the Gills a damn good thrashing on Saturday and things will look so much better on Monday.

He is a northerner with farming interest up there and is looking for a big club with a "name."

He's more likely to manage the Tesco Express on Canvey Island than Southend United.

When people name potential candidates can they please list their achievements in bullet point form. This will make it a lot easier to assess.

eg Saved X from relegation to conference
Twice finalist of LDV
Won play-offs
Won League One trophy, only second ever trophy in X's history
Masterminded X's best ever League Cup run, knocking out holders and Premier League Champions on way
Signed unheard of striker for £30,000, sold him for £1.5m

Judging by the club's recruitment policy in the past, my bet is we'd end up with Christian Dailly... it reminds me of a particular scene in the Roots Hall boardroom a little over ten years ago:

John Adams to Vic Jobson: Ey oop Vic me old duck. What we need 'ere is someone young, who knows the game and is well-known and respected in the area to bring in t'crowds.

Vic Jobson to secretary: Helen, get me Alvin Martin on the phone now.

Personally, I can't stand Colin ******. A hoofball manager who has signed some deeply mediocre players in his time, who has never really thrived at small clubs (e.g. took Bury down from the Championship and left them in a lot of difficulty) and who has an extremely overinflated sense of ego from what I can make out.

No thanks.

Can't see what would be wrong with Stimson. Has an enviable non-league contacts book and has been pretty darn successful at all of the lower-league clubs he's managed. Has some affinity with Roots Hall too.

What's not to like?

Allen - shouty man, leaping up & down, yet ultimately has had little tangible success.

Newell - hmm. Fans at other clubs have voiced very serious concerns about his fondness for a drink or two. It may well be untrue, but it's a rumour that has dogged him for a while...

Matt

I like Warnock (I know a lot of people don't) but there's not a chance in hell that he'd come here. We're the wrong end of the country for him and are at least one division below where he wants to be at this stage of his career and he said as much recently when linked to another lower-league club.

Newell & Allen are both more realistic names were there to be a vacancy here but don't both of them sum up exactly why we shouldn't get rid of Tilly? Both are good, young, English managers and coaches. And both are desperate to get to the top and don't mind which club they have to go through to get there. Newell jumped from Hartlepool the second the Luton job became available and Allen seems to go through a couple of clubs a year.

Without dragging this into yet another debate about the pros and cons of sticking with Tilson, a change of manager could well provide a short term boost in our fortunes but you can't run a club by only looking at the short-term. The project here under Steve Tilson, Paul Brush, Ricky Duncan & Ron Martin is about the long-term of Southend United and a couple of late goals at the end of the Brighton game shouldn't be able to jeopardise that.

For what it's worth I suspect that our next manager is already at the football club.

Yes yes yes but apart from saving us from relegation, twice taking us to a national final, winning the league 2 play offs, winning a championship, taking us on cup runs where we beat the arguably the best team in the world and making us a million or so on a local lad...what the **** has Tilson ever done for us?

I know! What a complete joker of a manager. Doesn't have a clue. Tilson out! :D

Dont forget geting legend shaun goater to play for us in his last ever season:p

I still can't believe he signed that joker Eastwood in the first place. We don't want untried kids, here. We want proven 20-goal-a-season strikers.
