Ref Watch Refwatch ......... Barnet (H)

As pathetic as feeling the need to continually post on another team’s forum ?
Not being a supporter of our club, you won’t have witnessed the truly horrendous performance by that lady referee.
I’ve posted on here 3 times in last 3 or 4 months I think? Hardly continuous is it?! 🤷‍♂️

My point wasn’t on the actual performance but the blatant misogyny on the board from several posters attributing poor performance with gender (many of which got deleted by moderators)

Information from the handful of Col U fans I've ever spoken to. I also used to work at the club years ago and, certainly back then (1991 - Jobson era) the two clubs enjoyed an excellent off pitch relationship. I do think it's much more our rivalry than theirs, if you know what I mean. Maybe not so much these days with Social Media whipping everyone up, but certainly historically, as far as I was aware, anyway.

I can understand that, possibly a bit more nuanced. Pretty much all Col U fans (yeah all 250 of us) hate Ipswich but that’s more to do with geography and historical issues (ie resentment of people in and around Colchester going to watch them rather than local club, and then fact they used to cherry pick off our better players and managers etc). As we have rarely been in same division it’s not really that much of a rivalry in the true sense (unfortunately) but I’d say most fans would enjoy seeing them fail

In terms of our main “rivals” most fans I know see that as Southend because of relative locality, same county plus we’ve spent more time in the same decisions so have more games against. It’s a proper football rivalry where we want to win derbies, finish higher in the league, be a step above etc but not wish the actual club to suffer and most of us were pleased when you lot eventually got rid of Ron and survived the court battles.

If Ipswich went Bankrupt I’d laugh
if Southend went Bankrupt I’d be gutted and sympathize with fans

That all makes sense and as for your last sentence I feel most fans of both clubs would feel the same. Southend and Colchester are both 'proper local clubs' as it were. Just a shame Layer Road is no more as like Roots Hall, was right in amongst the community (though I know it was a bit of a dump).

Interesting. I'd have thought Col U weren't on Ipswich's radar apart from being a fairly local club that maybe was a 2nd club for a lot of their fans (just like a lot of Spammers/Arsenal etc watch us). Whether Col U dislike Ipswich though and more so than us ... ?? .. I know there are Col U fans on here who might confirm.
That's probably in the same way as we hate Wet Spam, but they don't even know we exist.

Thank you for your early entry for the understatement of the year competition.

Yeah I think that’s fair, reckon it’s similar with your relationship with West Ham for a big chunk of your fans?

Layer Road was a dump but it was our dump, the first season in Championship was a massive leveler when big clubs came as couldn’t even fit in changing rooms with all their staff and equipment etc but we couldn’t stay there for the club to survive as it couldn’t generate non-match revenue or much corporate income. Was such a tight site with properties within yards of pitch (let alone stands) on 3 sides so impossible to develop.

New stadium obviously totally different in terms of character and soul of course but gradually improving and surrounding areas building up. Will never be the same but it’s practical and allows the club to try and get closer to balancing the books (trying to avoid the “sustainability” phrase!)

Apologies for taking thread off track
