He's a centre back not a centre mid...

Loaning one of the most promising Centre Mid's around and play him Centre half haha now that would be funny.
I think seeing as he's 17 I doubt he has his long term position tied down. He's played in the PL as a defensive midfielder, but most of his youth career as a CB. I guess we're bring him in primarily as CB cover (if we are bringing him in) and general competition in a few different positions.
We shouldn't sign him. He'd probably be a good player at this level but the point is that we should be looking to build something long term, not apply three month fixes. Otherwise we take a step back as soon as his loan expires.
What if he helps get us into the Championship, and we don't take a step back when his loan expires as we can attract a high quality centre half to replace him?We shouldn't sign him. Got in before me!I do agree where you're coming from but if these loan signings get us promoted then I'm all for it. With promotion brings a lot more money into the club for permanent signing after.

Possibly. Brown did though play Rea as a defensive midfielder a few times so I get the impression he is looking to fill that role more than a centre back.
Clearly he prefers his defenders to be comfortable on the ball so Oxford would suit the bill in either role.
What like Peter Clarke?
Peter Clarke wasn't a bad signing.
I hate to say it (because he'll always be a legend to me) but PB is by far a better manager than Tilly in every aspect and that includes signing players.

Peter Clarke was a disastrous signing. From a playing point of view and from a financial point of view.
Tilly might have made some terrible signings but I don't see Brown having made a single signing as good as Freddy Eastwood, Gary Hooper or Spencer Prior.
We don't overly rely on loans like a lot of clubs at our level and below.
Hendrie is only here as injury cover for Coker, Barnett is loan with a view to Perm, and the others are pretty much to make up the numbers in the squad. I would rather have a smaller slightly better squad with a few loanees.
I assume the budget is the same and loan players cost less, so we could have 15 better SUFC players and 5 loan players or 20 cheaper not as good SUFC players?
Sadly its a sign on the football today where the top clubs hoard all the youngsters. Oxford would be a cracking signing, but would have to wait for an injury or suspension to get his chance, but then probably will keep the shirt if he plays like he can.
You mean the same Gary Hooper that Tilly didn't rate and got rid of him even though, week in, week out, the fans could see he was a good player and one for the future and went on to play at a much higher level? :winking:
