So how long will Ranger stay? Just until the next transfer window is a possibility. I can picture Nile's agent on the phone working to get clubs to come and see him play on Saturday and thereafter.

Strikers get noticed when they start scoring regularly, although Nile has made a huge impact he will probably go under most clubs radar. I hope he sees us as his saviour afterall he was on the scrap heap before PB gave him this chance, he is also getting match time, he has clicked with the players and fans - but most importantly he is close to his friends and family, who seem to be the most important factor in his rehabilitation.

I would be shocked and very disappointed if he wasn't here at the end if the season and quite possibly next.

If Ranger's agent is doing that then he has badly misread Nile's situation. He is still a pariah in the footballing world and most people still think we're batty for giving him another chance. What Nile needs to do is keep doing what he is doing, getting his head down and concentrating on working hard and playing football. He has only played five matches, it is nowhere near enough to change most people's minds.

Six months down the line, if Ranger continues to play as well has he has been, he might get a shot at something bigger. But he is still in the last chance saloon at the moment.

How many points have we accumulated since Ranger has been in the side? I'm happy to include the 3 points at Sheffield United too.

My guess is that this is a business deal. Get a tainted player, prove he still has it, and sell him when the going's good. However, that might have to be put on hold because he's been injured and hasn't really had a chance to prove himself.

They give an indication but they are not the be all and end all. It is far too simplistic to assess a striker purely on his goalscoring record. It is a team game and all players should be assessed on their contribution to the team first and foremost. Scoring goals is a big part of that, but so are the factors that Ranger brings. I think he will start scoring soon and when he is fully fit he could be a revelation.

If Ranger remains fit and his nose clean then he will eventually climb up the ladder again,I have no doubt he will if he stays the entire season get into double figures here.

I understand every forward has more to his game than hitting the net,yet the more goals the forward scores the greater his career....Look at Corr he scored a fair few here and was rewarded with a double money deal at Cambridge.

Serious question here, how is he doing at Cambridge?

Someone seems very upset that Southend won again and are on good form. Gutted mrsblue

You cannot honestly say Corr moving to Cambridge was a 'step up the ladder' - more money, but hardly enhanced his career, got injured long-term after 20 odd games, and not played this season...

If Ranger does leave then he will be setting his sights on the Championship, not League 2

As I understand it, Ranger is on a 1 year contract ....... but I have heard/read that there is an option to extend for another year.

If that is the case then that takes the pressure of Ron and Brown as they can say to Nile that you are not going anywhere either in January 2017 or summer 2017 ............... but if Ranger continues to have the influence that he is then I am sure other clubs will be considering making a bid come January. For instance, those clubs in the division above but in the bottom third of the table and wanting to avoid relegation "at all costs".

And of course if the club continues to climb the league (that's quite a big if though) then I think there are other players who might be considered as transfer targets. What a conundrum.

Corr realised his playing career was winding down,he also knew he wouldn't play higher then league 2,he took the CU gig solely for the money and I cannot blame him, good luck to the bloke.

i never said Corr was stepping up the ladder.

Agree with you that Nile will want championship football and maybe eventually prem.

Leaving aside all the speculation on Ranger's future (bit early yet, isn't it?), I watched the highlights on Bluesplayer and at the final whistle Nile had a pretty substantial bit of transparent strapping around his left calf/ankle (probably ice). Have any of our training watchers seen the man at B&L?

Unfortunately, that's life in the lower leagues.

Except had he stayed with us he would have played L1...
Nonetheless with his injury record I can understand him thinking maybe he had one last chance of a decent contract.

Can someone tell me the words to the Nile Ranger song. Heard it a lot saturday but couldnt make out all the words
Nile Ranger went to court, he got found out not guilty, now he is a Southend boy, he wears the number 50,
6 foot 2, he is a Blue, he gets the fans excited, stick your Col U up your arse 'cause we're Southend United

As sung by some 12 year olds enjoying their half-term break here...
