Racism rears its ugly head again in U21s match in Serbia

Off white?

I think the whole thing has got totally out of hand now and something (I don't know what at this moment) needs to be done.

Maybe we should just accept that racism exists ... and albeit horrid and nasty, let's get on with life and boo John Terry whenever possible.

A friend of mine has a job which takes him to these matches. He said there was plenty of racist chanting, mainly directed towards
Marvin Sordell in the first half. He said he spoke about it to the UEFA delegate at half time who claimed he hadn't heard anything untoward. Apparently the abuse to the black English players was pretty horrible throughout the match but he has seen plenty of this over the years and it largely goes unpunished.

On the Clattenberg one, Stan Collymore (usually one of the first to jump on anything slightly racist) tweated the below over the weekend and if true then it's disgraceful that Chelsea have let things go so far:

Stan Collymore ‏@StanCollymore

A little story for you…. A players remonstrates with ref. Ref listens,then says "I don't give a monkey's" Case,as they say,closed.

Traditional fascist fans of Lasio attack traditional jewish fans of Tottenham. The silence is deafening here.

Ive not heard it was anything other than football hooliganism and not due to race, certainly none of the reports Ive heard have said anything.

Three pages of talk of racism and not one mention of Kazenga Lua Lua being involved in a racist attack on White people in Newcastle. Expect most people don't know about it as the press only like to report racist attacks that suit them.

Ain't that the truth? Y'know, I've heard rumours that Stephen Lawrence wasn't the "innocent" victim the press made him out to be, instead, he was a nasty little scumbag well known to the police. It's all about how people are portrayed in the media, I'm not defending his murderers just saying that things aren't always as they seem.

A friend of mine went to school with and said he was a scum bag from start to finish. That does not mean for a second I condone it but there have been plenty of white people murdered in racist attacks that never gets much press.

For example Kriss Donald http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Kriss_Donald or Ross Parker http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Ross_Parker - Tell me the difference between this and Stephen Lawrence apart from the colour of the victim. I suspect most people reading this have never even heard of the story.

The difference will be that these were properly investigated by the police and the murderers were speedily arrested, tried and convicted. The notoriety of the Lawrence case was because this didn't happen.

Why, because fining the Serbian FA several million Euros would solve Racism once and for all? No, all it would do would be to ensure that the development of Serbian football would be put back and many people would lose their jobs as the Serbian FA would be forced to cut-back in order to pay the fine. It's very easy to highlight the paltry fine as a weakness in UEFA's disciplinary procedure without actually offering a better alternative.

Comparing the fine to Bendtner's is also a ridiculous exercise, as it completely removes the context from the two decisions. As a professional, Bendtner would've been told repeatedly that players can't advertise companies on their person for personal gain. He went and did it anyway, and the fine was that amount to ensure that Bendtner himself didn't gain financially for making that decision. If he was fined €20,000 but paid €80,000 for the stunt, then he's still profiting from UEFA's lackadaisical approach.

Forcing tSerbia to play one game behind doors, which is being overlooked by highlighting the fine, is the much more appropriate punishment as it punishes those actually guilty of the offence. What UEFA should now do is make the next punishment significantly more severe, perhaps a three point deduction from Serbia's qualification campaign and a suspended sentence of a one-tournament suspension to act as a three-strike rule. You'd soon see which fans would be prepared to act in such a barbaric manner, and more importantly they wouldn't be given a platform to voice their reprehensible intolerance.

My alternative would be a lenghty ban now from all International competitions to give the Serbian FA time to get its domestic house in order(as happened with our own FA after Heysel).
Then points deduction for any future occurences.
