Question Time, Southend, 10th November.

Sadly the forgettable Tory guy was the most insightful. He at least attempted a bit of a post mortem instead of sixth form common room ranting.

As did the Republican woman.

As per usual the SNP had nothing to say apart from her playing the muslim card. Yet the SNP only exist because of Scotland's inbred hatred of England.

Before anyone tries to lecture me yes I have been there several times and my nan was Scottish.

If Sahara Churchwell wonders why people voted Trump she should watch her performance on BBC iplayer.
I have to agree. Thought she was bordering on hysterical at times. And she seriously needs to take of the Hilary blinkers too - she seems to think that HC is a pillar of virtue who's integrity was called into question purely because she's a woman.

Nobody on the panel mentioned the Bill factor. Far more damaging than being a woman

someone says that if elected they will ban Muslims from American. That person then gets elected and in a TV discussion on the election a UK Muslim MP refers to the fact that every member of her religion could be banned from travelling there and those already there will feel unsafe because of that. The MP then gets accused of 'playing the Muslim card'.

Forgive my ignorance but not read all of this thread.

I thought I read the line up had been changed ?
The Muslim MP was she drafted in to replace anyone?

the whole line up changed from those they had announced the previous week, just changes in availability I guess. She was there representing the SNP rather than because of her religion I would assume.

I thought she was awful. She condemned Trump for his disrespectful attitude to women and in the next breath started cracking jokes about Trump's appearance.

This
to be fair she was talking about how the media were analysing Clinton in certain ways and one of the things was 'if she was having a bad hair day - when Trump has a bad hair day every day'. MPs never make good jokes so that's unlikely to split your sides but for an MP joke it's not that cringe, and in political debate it was a throw away comment. When the guy in the audience highlighted it I was gobsmacked that in his moment to speak to millions of viewers he decided to tell an MP they shouldn't criticise Trump's hair. He wasted one of his fifteen minutes of fame.

The Echo looking for the man in the audience with the purple jumper who some Twitterati are proclaiming as the authentic voice of Southend (and there I was thinking it was Barna).
I was disappointed with Question Time although the Cliffs looked OK. The BBC must get better panellists. The professor was an embarassment. I would be seriously worried about her lecturing my grandchildren. Tasmina is touted as the next leader of the SNP as Nicola Sturgeon is performing so badly and is Samond's current favourite (he still pulls immense strings in the party). You have been warned. She used to be a died in the wool Tory BTW.
No one addressed the real issue of how to tackle the views of disallusioned middle America whose job's on the line (probably a Pennsylvian Coalminer or Steelworker in areas where indusry is dying and they see no future and who think the wealthy parts of the US has deserted them and blaming them for global warming). Not saying its easy but that's the key question. Same issue in the UK. Areas of old industry which are long gone are still in the doldrums. There was too much he's racist, misogynist etc blah blah. He won. The art of his opponents must be to try to understand why. You don't just dismiss the people who voted for him as the deplorables or thick. Clinton played the man and not the ball too much. What exactly were her policies? She definitely did not get those across. Remember Trump won without much support from the Republican party and with a smaller budget that Clinton.
I'm old enough to remember when Reagan was elected. The sky was going to fall in. As it turned out he was an OK president. Admittedly he had prior political experience but I think/hope that Trump will be a much better president than people expect.

As I said earlier in the thread, I think he can be found at The Hamlet Court pub at lunchtimes.I'm pretty sure I've seen him there.I believe he's a retired, former RN man.Certainly a distinguished sort of chap.Seem to remember him talking about his daughter too.

Thought she was her usual weak self. Good at whinging but can never offer you anything. Certainly not the best panel ever, could have done with longer time due to the US election obviously going to take up the whole show.

Best person was the local 'Geezer'....." If he said that about my daughter I'd put something in his eye....But we have to work with him"

If Sahara Churchwell wonders why people voted Trump she should watch her performance on BBC iplayer.

Found her a bit Gobi
