Champions obviously, though I would take automatic promotion or even a play-off win again. I really don't see the point of wanting to consolidate in L1. If we were lucky enough to go up again, the cut we would receive from the current TV deal would be almost seven times as much as we will we get in L1 next season. And of course you can't get promoted to the PL without playing in the Championship.

Nurse! Nurse! Can I have some of what he's on please?

I'd take 5th from bottom TBH but we need bums on seats so we really should target top ten. I think we'll give it a go and could surprise a few teams but at the end of the day we will fall short and end up top of the bottom half which would be good result in that division with our resources and support.

My head says mid table and my heart says somewhere in the top 10.

As long as we see some great football and have bigger gates and the club move forward and avoid the dross of league 2 I will be more than happy.

Personally I think league 1 is our level at roots hall if and when move then maybe we can push higher, but until then anything higher than league 1 would be shortlived.

I think if we sign this hunt then we can expect a top 10 finish I think, it's still a big if tho if we make him a Southend player.

if we stay above our friends we will stay up I think that's all we can ask for this season 15th to 20th for me

Thinking back to our last season in Division 2, I remember going to Leicester to see us lose 1-0.

I know it was a different division and different players and manager but in my memory, there was very little between the teams - they scored and we failed to equalise, they had a little more guile and tenacity and we came away with no points. It was a lesson on how to get by in a higher division.

I think Brown might be the manager to turn potential narrow defeats into draws but there is still a big uncertainty about who we will have up top so I can't see how anyone can predict how we will perform next season.

So there you have it - time to sit on the fence ........................:omg:

I disagree, those memories in the Championship were priceless and even though we lost a lot of games I loved every minute.

I agree with you, it was amazing. What would have been better was a couple of years in league 1 which would have given us a chance to properly compete in the championship rather than spend the whole season struggling. For success to be sustainable we need a couple of solid consolidating seasons.

You see I totally disagree. I've seen Division 1 and before that Division 3 and I would love another romp in the Championship before I get much older. Age does that to you I'm afraid.:smiles:

Blimey how many times have we got burnt with ageing strikers recently?!!! by all accounts he is a good player but the coming to the end of career bit does worry me slightly but if it works out then great.

I reckon top half, could be one of very few seasons that come March we wont have much to play for. I can only think of one season where thats been the case in recent History, the Sturrock/Brown change year.

The team who won the play-offs that season were below us in March; we also had the notable matter of Wembley in the JPT to look forward to.

Last two times we had nothing to play for in March was Sturrock's first season and before that I think it was probably Rob Newman's last season.

Last time we had nothing to play for in March was our last sojourn in teh Championship wasn't it?!?

Finish mid table but points deduction and massive fine for smoke bomb will see us relegated.

Let's face it, we don't like League One. We tend to leave it quite quickly, one way or another (those three years under Tilly notwithstanding). I'll be happy to consolidate though I wouldn't be surprised if we are pushing for Play-Offs. Seems that often the players that get us out of League Two look even better in League One, so I wouldn't be surprised if we were "there or thereabouts" at the top end.

We didn't get relegated until at least April!

Yeah we won at Preston on Easter Monday which was the 9th April and still had a chance of staying up. We did of course lose the last 4 games but I cant remember the actual game that relegated us, it might have been away to Plymouth on the 21st April. Anyone remember?
