enjoy the game tonight eh, pointless friendly if we are playing the reserves, if that, just hope we stay injury free as the problems will really start then.

so what are you looking at for this game then, 4,000 fans if we are lucky, well we wont get much funds out of this one eh, we should do the same and rest 7 or 8 of our players and stay injury free for saturday, give our youngsters a game and lets see if they have anything worth giving us on loan.

The fans are irrelevant in all honesty with regards to a pre-season friendly. This is all part of the fitness programme. Games shouldn't be designed as money spinners for the club and if we consider this game for the team it absolutely has purpose and point.

Just bought a ticket for the game. A tenner and it gets me out the house for a couple of hours. Far from pointless

So if West Ham's first team was playing against us we would be immune to injuries?

I really dont see the point of this game. If it was a full West Ham first team them maybe, would fill the ground, i dont expect many Spammers there tonight either. But after playing QPR friday night im not sure the sense in having this game 5 days before we start the leagure campaign, especially when we are woefully short of players. If i was PB i would only play trialist and youth players. Risking any player that potentially will start on Saturday would be suicide.

I would have to dissagree there, The season finished end of April so that would mean the club have been making a bigger loss then normal.

Pre season friendlys is the ideal chance to get some well needed money in.
Other than that I would agree that friendlys are all about match fitness,sharpness and to take a look at any new blood.

But looking at photos on twitter and watching sky sports it seem that pre season game are becoming more and more popular with fans then they use to be

No preseason friendly is pointless, they are to improve fitness,help the players get to understnd each other and to watch trialist,not just about money.We all would like a team to play decent football ,its preseason where they get to try out different tactics etc.

To be fair to him £15 is disgusting considering West Ham are bringing mainly a youth/reserve team tonight. I'm not going either.

Fringe players and youth by the sounds of it. Pricing too high for this one.

Don't understand this at all. Surely you're going to watch Southend, what does it matter who is turning out for the opposition? I can understand West Ham fans giving it the swerve if they aren't interested in seeing their yoofs, but why would it make any difference to Southend fans?

Personally £15 is too steep for a friendly full stop, whether it's against West Ham under 12's or the Brazilian national team - friendlies are just mindnumbing dirge from a spectator perspective. But if I was going to pay £15 for a friendly I'd rather see us play someone nearer our level (ie their youths/ressies) than struggle to a boring 3-0 defeat to their first team barely getting out of first gear.
