I think this weekends game could be the decider. Chesterfield are an ok team on paper but defeat at home to them then I think Phil Brown has to go. I've been a fan of his in the main but this squad is not relegation fodder (except maybe Mooney)

Anyway, in terms of a new manager then I would go for Coughlan and Maher in temporary charge. If results don't pick up by January then turn to a more experienced manager. Kenny Jackett or Chris Powell would be the ideal choice in my opinion.

I know a few Gills fans are starting to lose faith in Justin Edinburgh their situation quite similar taken a very similar pattern to ours only a few places higher. They were in the top 3 for vast majority of last season then fell away not even making play-offs. This season they started well and have slumped again. Would take JE if he fell out of work.

... By those that want him out, by and large.

I wouldn't say losing at home 0-3 to Doncaster in January is current form, any more than beating Bury 4-1 two weeks before that.

This season's form, especially away from home, is poor, but then again our current home form would be 5 wins on the trot if Peterborough hadn't equalized at the death.

The lack of a settled system concerns me greatly, but to suggest we'll definitely get relegated with 34 league matches still to play is a bit premature.

There's quite a few teams in our division, whose current form (last 6 matches) is worse than ours and some whose manager we would have had if he were available, for some :-

How very dare you to talk sense in this thread.

LOL ...

Hope no-one spots the goals conceded column in the last 6 games! :winking::blush:

"The lack of a settled system concerns me greatly, but to suggest we'll definitely get relegated with 34 league matches still to play is a bit premature."

You'll not be risking a fiver then?

Chris Powell.....Currently doing well as temp Derby No 1 and aiming to get the job full-time. He would not look to drop down to a struggling League 1 side....even if it was us.

Correction....Chris is now back in his assistant role with the Rams bringing McClaren back....

Go on then, I'll bet you a fiver 'Rob', that we don't get relegated.

Kenny Jackett or Chris Powell would be the ideal choice in my opinion.

without being rude what style do you think Coughlan or Mahar will bring.....

Why is Mooney being singled out? He's been our best player a couple of times this season, like Cox he's just being completely misused, Brown seems to think he's Barry Corr and is telling him to knock down long balls, but Mooney is a poacher not a target man.

Just throwing another name into the ring... Nathan Jones? Up and coming young manager, doing pretty well at Luton, was even linked with the Villa job. And obviously a former player.

Not sure his name has been mentioned here but definitely one for those who bemoan us not looking at local non league talent, John Still. I really rate the guy, only heard good things about him from those who have played under him and always does well with a small budget. The scouting he does at Ryman level and up is extraordinary

He got Dag & Red relegated last season, so I'd put his CV down as "we'll get back to you" personally.

Bit harsh, took over in January and Burnett was sacked with them in serious trouble. Got to give a man time to turn things around and daggers are looking strong this season and have a good shout at bouncing back 1st time of asking. Let's not forget he took Daggers from the conference up to league 1 and got Luton back into the league in recent seasons. I'd be very happy with Still.

Fair comment 'Ricky'.

He was also sacked that season by Luton after a run of poor results at a lower level than we are currently at.

He has his attributes, but I'm not convinced he could manage any more successfully at this level than many others.

Yes he was, but any manager that we can realistically attract is going to have one or two blots on their record. His previous 2 seasons with Luton were a league winning season breaking loads of club records and 8th in their 1st season up, narrowly missing out on play-offs. Fair enough he's not for you, he'd be a great appointment IMO.

Who would you fancy mate?

Good question.

Personally, I'd love Chris Powell and maybe Adam Barrett to pair up, with Tilly as an advisor. I think they'd play attractive football and know the club, the supporters and the expectations/budgets.

I'm not one for big name managers. Peter Taylor, for example, didn't really work for us and the jury is still out on PB for me.

Kenny Jackett does have a decent CV, but I'd take a Danny Cowley first, over him. Young and seems to be successful wherever he has gone.

A hungry younger manager would be my preference, with some good advisors around him.

The club have Clarky and Dave Crown around on matchdays, so they would be handy for advice, if asked.
