Players signed from rivals

fbm

Blue tinted optimist⭐🦐
We now have everything we have all been clamouring for... a tall centre half and a full back.

However, in some people's eyes this is a problem because they are both Colchester players.

So, with our main rivals being Colchester, Orient and West Ham, just how much does it matter where our players have been before they join us?

About time for a thread I feel naming players who have played for one of our rivals before joining us and have been good players or crowd favourites.

I'll start the ball rolling -

Freddy Eastwood - West Ham
Mark Warren - Colchester
Anton Otulakowski - West Ham

Warren was awful.

Richard Cadette wasn't.

The real ignominy here, surely, is that they're loaning us a couple of players. It's as if they have a couple of reserve teamers who aren't good enough for their first team, so they're being sent down to us to get some match fitness...

The shame of it.

:(

My problem is not that they're from Colchester, but it's the fact that they're so unwanted there that they haven't even been getting regular games for them in pre season! Plus, if it doesn't work out we're left with ANOTHER 2 gaps at the end of August just as the deadline approaches. At the end of the day they're yet more loans and seemingly we'll be running with a squad of about 10 permanent players by this time next year.

I think, to look on the brightside, they're players who Paul Lambert doesn't want in his 1st team. They've both been 1st team regulars previously whose faces don't fit any more.

Heath has a decent pedigree elsewhere (including premiership experience and goals) and White has 118 games under his belt for them.

Other than the fact that they are currently registered as Col Ewe players, they look like decent players.

If you'd have told me last week that we would be signing a 27 year-old 6'4" Centre Half from a league one club who has significant Premiership and Championship experience I'd have bitten your hand off and I guess most others on here would too!

Nail on the head there Matt. I dont really have a problem with players that used to play for the Scum (be it Orient or Col Ewe). Its just that they can't get in the Colchester Team and we finished above them last season.

That said I think this really is just a stop gap thing and just buys Tilly a bit more time to look for more permanent players.

Also where has this talk of a Premiership youngster on loan come from as I seem to have missed it. Any ideas who?

just another case of a bigger club, SUFC, trying to help out its smaller neighbours -

we play Witham town as a favour and take a couple of Col U players in for training to
see if we can save their careers

Interestingly it seems that Lambert is trying to offload Matt Lockwood as well as White.

How would we have felt if we had signed him instead of White as LB cover?

Clearly Tilly feels White is a better bet and both he and Brushy must know Lockwood reasonably well from his time with us as a youngster and with the O's. Looks like White must be a reasonable bet for a permanent signing if he impresses this month.
