Players revolt?

i assume that is the same Mr Harrison who was still around when i was there... wasn't a teacher but often used to help out with trips/sports days etc

No idea, it is a fairly common name. He'd have been late 20s/early 30s when I was there in the mid/late 70s.

definitely him because everyone said he had been around for yearsand he was a bit of a legend. must be in his 70s now

Yep, old Jim Harrison is a legend. Still involved with the school. Always go to the sppech days as a guest and goes on a few school trips still. You can still see him wandering around Leigh on his own shopping sometimes. Sadly his wife passed away some time ago. My dad is still quite friendly with him as he was Head of PE when he was at WHSB.

Glad it is him then and he's still involved with the school, felt really sorry for him when his missus died, she taught English and wrote in my end of year report that I would do well in this subject if "I didn't allow myself to be so easily distracted by goings on next door"!!! She had a wicked sense of humour!

I wish half of the teachers nowadays had the senses of humour that teachers in the 60s and 70s had! I left Westcliff only last year after doing my A Levels - my dad told me so many stories of some teachers who had weird and wonderful, but memorable, personalities, but I could count the amount of teachers like that that I had on one hand.

Still a few oldies left at Westcliff from the 70s. Mr. Maughan (History), Dr. White (History), Mr. Wringe (Chemistry) and, till a few years ago, Graham Walkington (Chemistry), are 4 teachers whom pupils from the 70s might remember.

Legend indeed. I still remember hearing about his wife's suicide :(.

He came to our year's 25th anniversary get together. I remember many dire teachers, but Jimmy Harrison was and is a top, top bloke.
