Players revolt?

The very same, Kenny.

I thought so,

Going back to your original point it, I've noticed how people bemoan the fact that T&B are quite placid in the dugout, but this is the same style they have always used! It's only now we're not doing as well that this has come under scrutiny.

it must be Neil Faraday the former head boy at WHSB. :)
I still trawl out his Texas sharpshooter argument from time to time. Neil you do raise the standard of debate and need to post more often.

What is much more effective is leadership on the pitch. It is much easier to exert authority as a player than someone who is confined to a technical area. In seasons past we have had Prior constantly talking and keeping concentration levels high (also blaming everyone else when he made a mistake!). We don't have anyone like that anymore.

Completely agree. Sometimes there's a tendency to overcomplicate simple problems in football. From memory, the real promotion winning part of our seasons came based on a mean defence. The turnaround last year seemed to be when Prior was in the team and fit.

We've lost Eastwood and we've got in a midfield packed with goals. Unfortunately, we've not got in an experienced and influential centre back.

Looks to me like we have three days to determine whether or not the team will have a spine this season or whether we'll just see sporadic excellent performances.

Im wondering if the players revolt is anything to do with Mahers fall from grace. From being first name on the the teamsheet he isnt even guarenteed a place on the bench now.

It was 2002.

To return to the thread, do we know whether this so called revolt actually took place and to what extent?

We were informed a month or so ago that Mark Gower and the management had fallen out and that he would be immediately sold. That didn't quite work out as described did it...

As I always say, I sit right next to the home dugout at the Hall and hence see and hear pretty much everything.

Gower does regularly show a massive lack of respect to Brush, hence probably why that rumour would've started. I've lost count the amount of times Brush has shouted an instruction to Gower only to get the words "**** off" and a shrug of the shoulders back.

I don't want them to be a Martin Allen shouting and screaming every minute, but what I do want is a bit more leadership. When the chips are down the silent treatment doesn't do anything IMHO. The players need an arm round them sometimes and a bollocking others. They get neither. They need their confidence built and they don't even get this. As has been mentioned, these days Tilly is completely and utterly mute. The exception was the first 45 against Yeovil the other week, but as soon as they scored he went back into his shell. He constantly points out problems and issues to Lee Turner, but not to the players, another thing that bugs me. Sometimes they need to be addressed during the game, not just halfway through or after.

Again, coming back to an earlier point, they are much, much less authoritative during games than they were a couple of years back. There isn't much leadership on the pitch during games, so there needs to be some on the side of it, especially when we're desperate for results.

These Tilly and Brush characters, they're not actually football managers are they? Surely if they behave as you say then they are some sort of imposters, entrusted to the running of the empire we love.

Feck me,how many more managers who think they can do better are in the stands?

Based on our average home gate around 6500 I should think.;)

Shocking if that's true. That's not just a lack of respect. That's an ATTITUDE PROBLEM, and Gower should know better. If players don't respect the management duo, why would they play for them?

I agree that shouting and screaming ala Martin Allen will also alienate players (can a manager win?) But there must be some form of communication and encouragement. Tilly and Brushy both need to shout instructions from the touchline now and again, they need to b0llock the players if they play badly.

There must be some way that those 2 can gain utter respect from the players so that they play well for them, and let them know who the **** is the boss so that they don't step out of line, without alienating them. Unless we have a bunch of babies on the team who can't take criticism when it's justified or think they're above instructions and advice?

Funnily enough i thought the Barnsley game became very animated with much passionate discussion on and off the pitch.
Tilly was off on one having a go on the line,Brushy was sorting out the 4th official and berating the ref whilst Clarkey was having a ding-dong early on with Macca who duly replied.
Plenty of "passion" but certainly no love-in.
Was impressed that we easily had the better of a Championship midfield and done well defensively apart from one slip from Hunt to let JCR in for a speculative shot from way out that Flavs would have easily caught had the wind not decieved him.
As i've been saying all along,we have the basics of a very good side, just need a slight tweak here and there.
Tilly and Brush have always enjoyed the loan market and i guess that's where we'll be heading when the window for transfers shut, giving them a stronger bargaining point.
I'll not be panicking if we sign no-one on a perm, but obviously most of us agree where we need to improve and the quicker we get those personnel in the better.

I remember Neil too... he was the year above me!

:hilarious: :hilarious: :hilarious:

My brother was WHSB Head Boy in 1968/9 when I was in first year - 68/9 - 72/3 was the prime time to be at WHSB, all down hill since then!

:p

So were you taught PE at all by Ron Curtis? I was next door in the Girls' a few years later and we all had massive crushes on him! I remember he had a bright red Triumph herald and we all used to hang out the windows at the front when we heard it going along the front road. I remember him singing lead in HMS Pinafore when we were in 6th form and all getting bladdered together on the last night. Plus, wasn't there another PE teacher, Mr Harrison (didn't know his first name)? If memory serves me right, his missus taught in our school and sadly committed suicide during one summer hol.
