Players revolt?

I heard something at the game last night from a usually reliable source that there has been some sort of players uprising! Apparently, it is all to do with Paul Brush who has been somewhat heavy handed over recent weeks. Tilly has calmed things down but I believe that the payers decided to stand together against something. Whilst I would normally take such rumours with a pinch of salt, the players representative would be the club captain, kevin maher, who seems to have fallen from favour over recent weeks. There may be something in this as I know from past expereince that Brush is not universally liked by the playeing staff!

Has anyone heard anything similar?

exactly cockles _ tilly is a nice guy and without someone behind him to balance that out, the players would take the ****.

As Cockles says above, given our form over recent weeks, I'd be more disturbed if things WERE plain sailing within the club at the moment.

Players get left out, people who aren't playing think they should be, things get said, and home truths come out.

Only one way to turn it around - get the results on the pitch.

Don't know if I believe this, but I AM concerned that Tilly is rarely seen on the pitch at the beginning of games these days. Is it a joint managerial role or is Tilly not the one in charge?

Isn't that like questioning whether Alex Ferguson is in charge at Old Trafford?

The two of them are always lumped together, a la "Tilly and Brush", yet it's always Brush you see directing players during the game and leading pre-match training. Just pointing out that I'm not sure who is actually in charge of training these days and wondering if maybe that's an issue? It's been said that he wasn't very good at Orient so I'm just concerned at the overall influence with us.

I understand what you're saying. I'd just point out that it's the same partnership that stopped us going into the Conference, took us up, blah, blah, etc, etc...

I'm sure they're using the same practices now as they were back then. The only thing to have changed are the personnel we now have in the team (and the lack of options we find ourselves with), the expectations of the fans and our current league standing.

My dad pointed out that Tilly has taken a step backwards in his managerial methods since he completed his coaching badges and it's true. Compare him now to two seasons ago, he's never been over vocal during matches but now he's almost mute. I know lots goes on and is said in the dressing room, but I find it strange he can show so little emotion during the game.

i also find this very strange. brush does all the shouting. should be tillys job but don't think i saw him move from his spot last night. every manager shows their vocal support so why don't tilly?

Who would you respect more, the man who loses his head every time something goes slightly wrong (as it's going to do many, many, many times every season), or the one who stands back, watches what is really happening and then makes the right comments at the right time?

Whether Tilson does actually make the right comments at the right time, we'll never know, but it still amazes me how people equate coaching excellence with losing temper and shouting during matches. I thought that was our job!

I have seen Tilson be both gutted and estatic, especially with last minute winners and 'losers'.. So he got a stiff upper lip and doesnt rant like a loon, fine by me..

Well I can't imagine its Tilson who has a go at the players if we play poorly which leaves Brushy to do it and thats probably why some might not like him.

And what help does a manager ranting from the touchline do? Certainly there are instances where it can be effective, but a constant barrage of advice isn't really helpful.

The simple fact is that it is the management's responsibility to prepare the side as best they can for the game. Once the players cross the white line it is they're responsibility to win the game and theirs alone.

What is much more effective is leadership on the pitch. It is much easier to exert authority as a player than someone who is confined to a technical area. In seasons past we have had Prior constantly talking and keeping concentration levels high (also blaming everyone else when he made a mistake!). We don't have anyone like that anymore.

I think, mattytheshrimper, you are asking the management to behave as supporters, which is always a dangerous game. They have their own style which has not inhibited success in the past. The lack of someone screaming from the touchline is not the reason we will end up mid-table this year.

Only two posts 6 months apart both of them well thought out and interesting. Are you really only posting twice a year, Neil F. or do you have an alter-ego by which we know you better? If the former, I for one would welcome more regular contributions.

Aaaargh,he's gone again!

I was formerly just "Neil," but forgetting my password and no longer possessing the email address I registered that account with, I'm afraid that persona died.

I shall endeavour to make more frequent posts though

Are you the "Neil F", formerly of the yahoo list?

Your style of posting is quite familiar
