Probably the dumbest comment of the year! I've never slagged off Corr, but his work rate is iffy at times, probably due to injury, but he isn't in the same league as Freddy. Ironically, the same applies to the Divisions they scored their Southend goals in! :dim:
Eastwood was an incredible player, and a legend... however I can't agree what he worked harder than Corr (if that's what you're suggesting). Eastwood would stroll around for 80mins, not chase much down but then pop up and bang in a screamer. Funny how in the CCC managers have expected him to work harder for the team and he's been found out.

Not suggesting that for a moment, but I think he did work harder than Corr.

Barker is our best defender by a mile...

Corr has had a cracking season, but cant see him hitting 20 goals again. As a targetman, I would accept 12-15 from him as long as we have a decent player alongside him netting the 20 goals. Someone with pace who plays of the shoulder of the last defender.

What do you base this on? Given that he has been scoring regularly at the end of the season and that we are unlikely to be in the same parlous position in August as we were last year, I would think that he will probably score more. As long as his back holds up.

I feel the right player won but I did feel for Barry Corr that his efforts wernt recognised.
I just hope we keep hold of Barker and others who I believe are being watched by other clubs.
Just want to say a great effort from the players and Paul Sturrock, i'm looking forward to next season.

Shirley, you can't be serious! Freddy was one of the laziest players I've seen but he got away with it because he would create something out of nothing. As Pubey said, Wolves and Coventry have both wanted him to be more of a worker and he's not creating as much for himself.

Many fans, yourself included it would seem, have very short memories. People only seem to remember Freddy's last 6 months with us when, yes I agree, he was lazy. But the 2 promotion campaigns, he was anything but. For me, the 2 season review DVDs reaffirmed my view on that when I watched them the other week too.

Remember Freddy's first goal on his debut, when he took the kick off and tore from the centre spot to the goalmouth in 7 seconds to head in Wayne Gray's cross? Can't see Corr doing that.

Remember when he chased Konstantopolus down when we played Hartlepool at home, forced him into making an error and then scored from the corner flag? Can't see Corr doing that.

Corr might look like he works harder because he is a technically limited footballer and sticks to what he knows that he can do. Freddy had flair and had so many additional qualities in his arsenal that when he didn't use them all over 90 mins, it looked like he wasn't playing to his maximum.

Look at Freddy's 32 months here as a whole. Not the last 6. He didn't work any less than Corr does.

The only thing I would say in defence of Freddy, is was rarely strolling back onside when we were attacking again like Bazza nearly always does!

I thought Freddy's lack of work-rate was overstated even when we were in the Championship. It must have been utterly demoralising to be one of only two players in that squad not completely out of his depth in the second tier.

Barry Corr does tend to be underappreciated here, hence the failure to place in the Player of the Year award. To have a targetman score 21 goals despite picking up a number of injuries is phenomenal and I'd be surprised if we can hold onto him for long.

I think those who voted got it right at the Trust's end of season awards - a 1,2,3 of Barker, Corr and Hall.

Couldn't make it last night due to family commitments, anyone going to post a summary of the evening's proceedings and any other gossip picked up?

I rather hoped someone would but as no-one seems to...

The evening was hosted by Trevor but compered by Nick Alliker who made it quite an entertaining evening by interviewing winners, and the Junior Shrimpers making presentations. Glen Morris won the outstanding Player of the Month award for April. Kane won the Youth Team Player of the Year (Tom Grace Memorial Shield), with Teddy Nesbitt and Jamie Stevens (I think) in 2nd and 3rd. Kane interviewed very well, cracking a few jokes, seemed very comfortable and at ease. Goal of the Season (Martin Cranmer Memorial Shield) was won by Ryan Hall for his goal against Gillingham, he quipped that there are plenty more to come and seemed in quite high spirits. He also won the Junior Shrimpers Player of the Year award. The main award was as I said already, Ryan Hall in 3rd, Barry Corr in 2nd and Chris Barker winning - I don't know if anyone explained the curse of the POTY trophy to him!

Paul Sturrock said some very nice things about the support and how much it's appreciated, how well the team have done considering the state of play when he arrived and he confirmed the details of the tour and of the pre-season friendlies in the pipeline. As far as I could tell, ALL the 1st team and youth team players were there (including those now released) and they signed stuff happily, chatting to people. I didn't get involved in talking to them much apart from directing Mr Barker to the loos! But plenty on here did so hopefully someone else will fill in on any gossip!

As much as i've really enjoyed watching Barker, the only thing that irked me was when Bilel got injured along with a host of others and we ended up having to throw in the kids. Just when you expect the likes of Barker to step up and help them, his own performances were dire. That was his worst spell i reckon. So, no- i don't think Barker was consistently good, in fact he went missing just when were on the cusp of the play-off places.
Corr i admire for his battling performances this season, i thought he was truly awful on the first day of the season (along with another 9!) but he kept on knocking them in, despite ability and injuries. He's a right bloody handful in the box, especially in the air. If we are talking consistency, i'd say Corr is the most consistant player in the whole team. A lot of others have been great in spells.

The biggest impact on the team without a doubt and the most improved player has to be Hall, this kid is fantastic, turned our season around, what a shame we had to stick him in at left-back when we really needed points on the table for that last push.

Player of the year? Too close to call !

I agree,Barker is quite a cultured player.........Be an interesting vote next year if Bilel manages to play for most of the season and the first three improve on this seasons performances.
