Staying confident - Southend United midfielder James Morton

JAMES Morton still believes Southend United can secure success this season – despite Friday’s 0-0 draw with Braintree Town.
The share of the spoils made it three games without a win for the eighth placed Shrimpers.
But Morton stressed Blues would not be giving up hope of a top seven finish.
“We’ll keep believing,” said Morton.
“We’ve believed all season we can do it and we got ourselves into a good position a few weeks ago.
“We’re still in a position to get it but it’s not in our hands now and all we can do is win all three games we have left.”
The Shrimpers are currently five points off the play-off places ahead of this afternoon’s game at Ebbsfleet United.
And Morton also believes Blues can score enough goals to work their way back into contention despite their recent issues in attack.
“We’ve got good players and a good team,” said Morton.
“In general we played well too (against Braintree).
“Sometimes it goes your way and sometimes it doesn’t.
“On Friday it didn’t and we tried to break them down.
“We tried to mix it up but we believe in our players and squad that we can score goals.
“It just wasn’t meant to be.”
And that left Morton frustrated at the final whistle.
“We probably feel what the fans feel,” said the midfielder.
“It’s very disappointing we couldn’t get the win.
We kept going the whole game and it was our game to get the three points.
“We got the point and now we have to go again on Monday where we have to win.”
And Morton will therefore not be dwelling on Friday’s draw with the Iron.
“We have to put this behind us now and look at the positives,” said Morton.
There are positives we can take and we have to go to Ebbsfleet now and focus on winning.”
