Pick a best game for each player (past or present)

Steve Clark v Exeter (H). I wasn't there for his debut v Plymouth, but the game that stands out for me was a demolition job against 10 men Exeter when he tore them to shreds on the same day season ticket renewal forms went out. He must have paid his transfer fee several times over with an electric performance that helped mask an otherwise dreary season by one of the dullest Southend teams ever.

how about a serious Roycey one?

I think someone already mentioned his clean sheet against the West Ham scum in that incredible 1-0 victory at the Hall and he was incredible that night. Many of his performances during the Whelan years were super human, he would let in three or four and still be man of the match.

Roycie is a difficult one because he had so many good games. There was one season in particular when barely a game went past when he must have saved 2 or 3 certain goals a game with Keith Dublin standing there pointing at the player he should be marking.

I'd probably pick his debut(?) against the Hamsters. I think it was his first game, he might have played a league cup game or something though. Sammy was out suspended and we had to pitch this kid in whose only previous experience was in park football but he had a blinder. It was one of those nights were everything went for him, he gave a really commanding performance coming for pretty much every cross (and getting nowhere near a few of them).

That save against Bradford from Edinho's header was the best save I've ever seen though. Darryl Flahavan fans please note, that is what superb reflexes is all about!

I could be wrong but I think he may have played once the season before (against Grimsby) after Sammy got sent off against Boro and Tilly had to go in goal? If not I cant recall who our reserve goalie would have been at that time?

Just checked it in the Official History of the Blues and you're right.

That little **** John Hendrie dived to get Sammy sent off.

That was back in the day when you only named one sub. I feel really old now.

Our reserve keeper before Royce would have been Paul Newell. Not sure when he left, but that Grimsby game was the first game Sammy missed in 3 seasons

Sammy and Roycie - legends. But sorry YB, Daryl belongs in the same bracket.

Thought Ritchie Foran had a storming game against Palace just after we signed him, played on the left wing, won EVERY header and looked a right handful.

Shame he didn't keep to that standard.

Also Freddy and Stan's respective debuts, legends were born.

had a good game coming off the bench against burnley.

Steve Philips v Torquay 11th May 1985 scored a vital penalty that made sure we did not have to apply for re-election into the Football League. Oh how the 1,704 crowd celebrated when he scored in the North Bank net.

Jonathan Hunt v Derby away 27th Nov 1993, we won 3-1 and were awesome that day with Hunt playing a blinder. We would have beaten Brazil we were so good.

David Crown v Peterborough away 5th May 1990, scored 2 goals in a 2-1 win to gain promotion. Crown scored loads that season but they were the most vital. Without those 2 goals there would have been no promotion in 1990/1 & no 6 seasons in Division 1.

Boere against Bolton in the 5-2 win. Probably Paul Williams' best game for us too. Shame that everyone played well that day and shambolically for the other 45 games that season.
