I think we have to be a little careful in not constantly polarising our site as if its all made up of Phil haters or Phil lovers and nothing in between. From what I read most people hold a rather different position both able to praise and criticise positively and negatively. This sight is for opinions after all. I like to express an opinion about Brownie regularly and boy does he like to put himself in a position where he attracts the odd view or two, he is hardly Mr. shrinking violet!
I express an opinion on his comments, his team formations, his regular media staements, his team selection and substitutions, That doesnt make me anti Brown it makes me a happy member of a verygood website that invites OPINIONS, daily !!

Frankly, I find it inconceivable that Phil Brown is still in a job at Southend. His tenure has been absolutely abysmal and we are rewarding him with an improved contract. Let's face it three full season's and all he has done is:

In his first season reach the play-offs
Second season play-offs again and victory in the Final at Wembley
Third season consolidate in League One with by-and-large the same players that were in League Two
Don't want to seem anti-Brown, but surely signing a contract last summer was the reward for a good first two seasons?

This season we have consolidated, which was surely the target. I don't see why that should mean he should be rewarded with a new deal with 2 years left to run on the existing one?

If I were a player being brought to a club I'd like to know that for the (foreseeable) future the man that wanted me there will be around for a while. Rather than joining a new gut comes along and then don't fit in their plans.

You're thinking Steve Evans here, clearly. No thanks.

There aren't too many managers I wouldn't prefer to Brown, but he is one for sure.

Brown has ran out of ideas - we should have got shot

Bang on this.....& he's almost lost the dressing room, the lads knew he wanted the Bolton job & he made that clear......who wants to play for a manager that don't really want to be around........Brown will be gone before Xmas imo, unless he can turn it around & convince players to come here & keep the players he has

I guess it depends on what his target was but if I achieve my targets I certainly expect to be rewarded when it comes to discussing my bonus.

Football management is very cut throat. If you fail you are out so if you succeed....

Well if we start next season the same way we finished the last one then the writing will surely be on the wall for Phil around the end of October but with this new contract we'll have to pay him off 2 and a half years wages to sack him. This contract is a big risk for Ron!

I have lost count of the amount of times Phil Brown has seemingly lost the dressing room (when we lose a couple games) only to miraculously find it again (when we win a couple) and the team spirit is the best we have ever had.

Groundhog Day..

Perhaps we could play 'Brown Bingo' through the summer.

A well as a couple of decent strikers, some of our posters need to sign some decent clichés before August.

Chairman of lower league clubs are on a hiding to nothing with Managers.

To get a good one you normally need to offer a decent period length contract, but if the Manager is successful he more often than not resigns to join a larger club, whereas if he is crap then you have to pay his contract up if you sack him.

Respect to Gary Monk who has accepted the chalice at Leeds but on a one year rolling contract and presumably is confident enough in his own ability to deliver.

Not a huge PB fan, but this does show commitment. On the other hand if he did really well with us, and a Prem club came in for his services, i dont think a contract would stop him going anyway.

he would have to do REALLY well. I am not sure he is on any premier league club radars. So many managers with good things on their CV nowadays.

I've always been a supporter of PB (and still am), predominantly because he is our current manager. His CV has been refreshed by his 'success' here, but unless he takes us, or a similar club, all the way to the Prem I really can't see him managing there again. The Championship? maybe, but Prem and Championship sides have so much money that they will employ the latest fresh talent from home or abroad. It happens with players and also with managers. A fact of life unfortunately.

And so many top managers from abroad coming in to lower half Premier League clubs for the money. Look at Quique Flores at Watford, Europa League winner with Atletico Madrid not so long ago.

Unless Phil gets a side promoted to the Premiership, does very well at a Championship side or goes as assitant and ends up taking over, I can't see him managing at that level again.

Well t:smile:hat will be SUFCs first signing off the new season, just need to know is he a striker ,defender or midfielder.

Phil is getting fed up with constantly loosing the dressing room . He has asked Ron to put in new signage up to help him find it but Ron says that whilst Fossets is just aroumd the corner we are not spending any more money on Roots Hall. Apparently at Fossets there is going to be aircraft style floor lighting between the Managers office and the Changing Room so that the manager cant loose the dressing room going forward.

Gone to another job or sacked by Ron?

Personally, I can't see Ron pulling the trigger that quickly.
