Phil Brown

A robust decision by Barrow, assuming they made it. We gave Kevin Bond a job when it was fairly obvious he'd kept us up more by luck than judgement.
From the Os it reads more like it was a negotiation point rather then a robust decision. Salary or budget perhaps.

Phil Brown as usual full of bravado as he's linked with the vacant managers job at Halifax. We get a mention too....his dreadful recruitment doesn't though.... surprise surprise!

To be fair, he signed Steve Arnold, Sam Dalby, Rhys Muprhy, Jack Bridge and personally persuaded Matt Dennis to chose us over Wrexham, as well as other teams. Abu Ogogo at the time was a considered a bit of a catch for this level.

At the end of the day, it didn't work out for him this time round. His archaic methods turned too toxic far too early into it, plus being out the game in this country for a few years did not help. He alluded to this publicly, also have heard that he wished he put his foot down with regards to his management team. Supposedly Ron insisted on having Craig Fagan as number 2 to insure continuity at the club (Ron learnt from losing Kev Maher to Bristol Rovers)

But all in all PB is an effective manager if he can cultivate his style with the environment around him. There's no denying that, he has achieved things in the game that most managers who enter the circuit will statistically never achieve.

It either goes really well with PB or utterly dreadful, no in between, depending on where a team is in their 'cycle' he could be a necessary evil for them.

I wish him the best, I really do. One of the most charismatic, wittiest, genuine football 'men' who had a lot of time for everyone in the center circle lounge and loves the area. A good man.

“I've done it from the Championship to the Premier League on three separate occasions.”

I see his Champ Manager 01/02 save is going better than his actual career🤷
