Only negatives from last night... Robinson missed another easy chance (he needs to take these coming off the bench) also Ted Smith still does not fill me with confidence. Nothing major though, we move onto Saturday and hopefully another good win

That was far from an easy chance on Saturday. He was wide of goal and therefore having to allow the ball to come across his body to get a better angle, but he was being closed down, so had to take it earlier than he would have liked.

Not too fussed about last night's miss. I'd rather he was getting into scoring positions than not. The goals will come.

Its not just financial backing, he backs his managers & gives them time to sort things out when it appears to all be going wrong. I know the Tilly thing will divide people but he also stood by him longer than most chairmen would have. I wonder how many clubs have only had 3 managers in the past 13 or so years?

I was impressed when we were in the bottom of the Championship he extended Tilly's contract whilst everyone else were sacking theirs... didn't make any difference in the end, but I thought he showed some class

Don't forget everyone, Peterborough are the club model we should be aspiring to!

#1-4

I have been in an area in Spain with no signal...until a few minutes ago.
To get a signal and see the boys smashed Posh out of sight has made me feel absolutely fantastic this morning.
It's a wonderful day.....

Some interesting quotes from theposhforum.co.uk:

4 1, as on radio cambs, if Southend are 6th, there is no hope for posh

men and boys

How do a team like Southend wind up with Fortune, Cox and Ranger to pick from up front? While we have a striker GM won't start in home games because of abuse from lolfans, a 32yo who can't get in a League 2 side, a gutless Sideshow Bob lookalike and a barrel from St Albans?

(They left out Robinson!)

I've never seen a football match played in a morgue.

They were silent, even pre-match. No cheering of the team, nothing. The only reason I reckon they stayed after the third goal was to watch our sublime football. To say we took them apart is probably an understatement.

It was a performance of Scunthorpe-esq proportions. 100% team effort, no-one had an off day, men against boys.

For me, the biggest issue was the fact that we didn't score until first half stoppage time. I cannot emphasis for those who missed it just how much on top we were; it was embarrassing. In the 44th minute I was worried that, as Oxford discovered last week, if you don't score when you're on top, it can come back and bite you. Surely we can't be that good again and they can't be that poor. It was just the final ball that was missing, we had the wind in our favour, come on Blues... and then - and I know I'm in a minority - I thought the ball DID cross the line as it came off the post. There was a split second where there was clear grass between the ball and line before the keeper dragged it back.

In the second half, we weren't quite as dominant but had more chances as Peterborough tried to chase the game. They failed spectacularly and it could have been 3-0 long before we got the second, a superb flick on by Cox to MAF who finished with ease.

Minutes later it was 3-0 as MAF again caused havoc, this time for the much improved Wordsworth to stroke into the net and a cricket score looked likely.

75 minutes in, another sublime move saw Demi break clear and square to Robinson, who only had the keeper to beat, but failed. That could have seen the floodgates absolutely open.

However, we do have our failings. 3-0 is never that safe for us unless there's less than 2 minutes left, in which case the draw is nailed on. We will insist on dropping too deep. The vastly improved Demitriou lost the ball in front of us and having worked it to the other side, they got behind our back four for the first time in the game and the striker scored with a decent finish.

12 minutes to go and all of a sudden the corpse like crowd wake up and one senses it's squeaky bum time. There is a flurry of corners, Leonard heads one off the line, there's a goalmouth scramble or two and a low shot bounces up off Ted's arm and onto the bar. It's not the Alamo, and they aren't even that good, but we just seem to have decided to let them play. Echoes of Swindon last season when, at 2-0 up after 44 minutes, we decided to give them the ball almost unopposed and we went in at half time level.

However, with the clock winding down and Robinson taking the ball into the corner, Ranger decides to make something happen by beating his man on the by-line and squaring to Timlin, who stroked into a nearly empty net.

4-1 was definitely not flattering, 7 or 8-0 would not have been unfair.

The first part of the journey home was enhanced by listening to BBC Cambridgeshire and the texts and tweets from disgruntled fans and a squirmy interview from their manager, Grant McCann. Always good.

No time for detailed ratings now sadly, but everyone an 8 except MAF (9) and my MOM Timlin (9.5) who capped a near faultless performance with a well deserved goal.

Got to bed around midnight and up at 5am for work, so first time to hit the thread !

What a performance. That was a performance from a team playing with confidence and team spirit. We were patient and disciplined and worked for each other throughout the team. The togetherness is there for all to see, but not just the starting X1, even the subs, when warming up before and at half time, all mix with a smile on their faces. It must be tough knowing that breaking into this team at the moment is almost mission impossible, but you just get that sense that as a collective, they are really all in it together.

MAF was strong and quick and too clever for the Posh back 4.
Cox's mind is too quick for most. I enjoy watching how he plays the game.
Lenny, apart from a couple of wayward passes as again the leader of the pack from me. Up and down, passing left and right and getting his head where it mattered. People point last seasons fall away to the PB/Bolton situation, for me the catalyst was the loss of Lenny after his injury vs Colchester. He is for me, undroppable.
Wordy was back to his best and Timlin harried and hassled.
Demetrious energy was amazing, he was here there and everywhere, but never out of position, which is an amazing thing to consider. Thommo and Inniss, immense. Thommo really is a different player, tackles, reads and controls. A future captain in the making ( just a shame for him that Lenny for me is Captain in waiting , even at 24 ).
Coker, back at his best now. Up and down that wing. Defending, but also providing a superb attacking outlet.
Smith, some superb handling, a strange choice of the punch ( that will come with experiance ), for me he has a lot to learn, but also, I feel he is. Good to see him developing before our eyes.

No marks for me, apart from the team. A 9 for me. Almost perfect, a Clean sheet and 1 more goal ( the Theo one ) would have earned the 10.

We controlled the game with such confidence and arrogance at times and you could tell, if needed, we had more gears we could go through. Our fitness and strength showed !

Bring on Gills !

ITS NOT FAIR!!!!!!

Know all's like me have been destroyed by Browny,Cox and Marc !

Phil has turned us into a pretty good outfit who can score at will....long may it continue.

Well done everyone......off to eat my sour grapes now:stunned:

Great 3 points last night and strongest squad we have had for years, what a great game at gillingham to look forward to on Saturday and on our form right now most people would expect a win but I'd be happy with a draw:thumbsup:

What strength Fortuné showed in scoring that second goal. So many players being pulled back like that would have gone down in the box to earn a penalty but he had the bottle to run on and blast the goal in. He's amazingly fit for a player of his years - he must have been hacked and chopped by opponents over twenty years or more but he can still outpace younger men. If he keeps free of injury for the rest of the season I can see us challenging for the automatics.......

All of which were slated when they signed.

I personally didnt see the point in Fortune but he as earnt his place.

Just goes to show maybe people shouldnt just write off every player because they didnt score 30 goals last season.

Our striking options are brilliant at the moment. Shwos the importance of pace and strength, both MAF and Cox dont get bullied off the ball like smaller strikers would.
Just hope we can get some of our key players signed up on longer contracts.

Also by taking our time and going for players that improve the squad.

It is ironic that there are frequent calls for us to sign hungry non-league players with Peterborough often quoted as the experts at this.

Lets see how we go against Gillingham and all their early season signings on Saturday.

From a Posh site ;

"Southend arrived at the ABAX Stadium just three points ahead of Posh. They left it with a 4-1 win under their belts and the certain knowledge they won’t have an easier contest all season. The Shrimpers were stronger, fitter, faster, more experienced, more skilful and better organised than a Posh side who meekly accepted their fate once deservedly falling behind on the stroke of half time."

...and from a Posh rag ;

" Peterborough United were outfought and outplayed by Southend United in their League One fixture at the ABAX Stadium tonight (February 21). The visitors were well worth their 4-1 win as the Posh players had a collective off night. Goalkeeper Luke McGee was the only Posh player not to be marked as below average by the Peterborough Telegraph"
