People's Opinions on this board!

simac21

Coach
after reading people's opinion's on here i was thinking have the people on here played football before i feel people who have played football before normally have nearly the same opinion on players but people who havent played football normally have a totally opposite point of view which causes arguments on here cos they aint got a clue!

The other thing i notice is people compare us to much people watch too much premiership and champions league football and compare southend united to that so when southend dont do something a premiership side could do they moan!

anyone else notice this?

Firstly if you could learn to use commas that would be a great help, I got out of breath reading your post.:)

To answer your question, I don't think it makes a difference if someone has played the game or not. I guess that sometime or another we have all played football, but I doubt if many have played at a high level.

I haven't, but after watching Southend for over 30 years I don't feel that my opinion is too far off. And as we don't have Sky Sports I don't often get to watch the prem games.

Football is all about opinions, some you agree with some you dont, and its about passion. Without these elements football would be as exciting as watching paint dry.

Sexist.....

I agree completely with this post. Thats why some people didn't like Maher. They never understood how he played the 'hole' position and how important it is for other midfielders and defenders to always have an outlet.

If you haven't played football I'm afraid its near-impossible to fully understand the smaller, but integral (sic) aspects of the game.

Which makes it all the more surprising that no big club with a manager who presumably played the game at a higher level than anyone on this board, snapped him when he was setting the bottom half of Division Three alight for all those years.

I played football for my village team for about 5 years and a year I think for my secondary school team......bet thats raised a few eyebrows...:stunned:

You might agree, but I wasn't one of those that disliked Maher so that kind of blows your theory out of the water doesn't it?

I've never heard such utter rubbish!

Guys/Gals that have played football do understand more about positioning/movement off the ball etc. I played for 15 years in quite good teams and although I never was/never will be as good as SUFC players etc etc, I can see from the South Stand when players are positioned badly/not following their man/ball watching/not playing a blatantly obvious ball into space for a player to run into/players not running into space etc.

I think there are a lot of us on here in the same boat and it frustrates us watching these things happening/not happening when we can see the frailties, even though we are not great players ourselves!!

I could see how good Maher was, as lots on here could but others couldn't. Sideways or backwards movement creates space for other players to move into etc.

I think it makes a world of difference.

If anyone has been involved with a professional club, either on or off the pitch, they will agree with me when I say that it is a world apart from the local football set up that I figure most of us are more familiar with.

Again, if you have played at a decent level, say semi-pro, then there is so much more to the game than just going out and playing in a 4-4-2 formation or whatever.

The point is that the experienced eye will watch the whole game, whereas the inexperienced eye will follow the ball.

And apostrophes.

Maybe you'd understand had you played the game.

I understand perfectly well, and I think on the whole people have often agreed with observations I've made to do with football, same as I've agreed with things that others have said.

I really don't like the way this thread is heading, I feel that after watching the club for all those years I can surely be credited with some football intelligence. The theory is similar in almost any team sport anyway be it hockey, rugby, netball, football or others that I can't think of at this moment, off the ball positioning is equally relevant in any of them, so I really don't appreciate this "you don't know what you're talking about because you never played football/you're a woman" attitude, and I am very surprised at that coming from you, Beefy.
