Thinking about who this might be, and since comically inaccurate speculation tends to be the lifeblood of such threads, I notice that a certain former Champions League winner who would help to address a current shortage is out of contract within the next week or two.

If it's a fairly attacking left back who is likely to provide more creativity than Coker is at the moment then it could prove a good move. Lets face it, Coker has been out of form for some time now.

Scary thing is, Coker is (was) a very creative attacking left back who seems to have lost all the creativity over the last year or so under the current manager and system. Need to hazard a guess that apart from possibly struggling to regain full fitness after his injury, Coker is also a victim of the regime and is being forced to play in a way that doesn't suit attacking football... If so, it wont matter how good a newcomer is, the current defensive style of play is likely to have the same effect :'(

Coker has only played for us under Brown though so it was the same management and regime that brought him to the club and for which he played a far more attacking role.

The main difference is that in the first 2 seasons we were in League 2, generally in the top 10 and with far more attacking opportunities to allow Ben to get forward. This was especially so at Roots Hall where many teams came with a view to just defending.

Last season was very different we were in league 1 and as a consequence Ben and the whole team have needed to defend more.

Can't agree about him not being attacking. If anything, he isn't through his own fiddling about on the ball than any defensive plans of the manager.

He gets plenty of chances to get forward and as a wing-back, even moreso.

Thing is, he doesn't deliver quality balls into the box, especially from set-pieces, on enough occasions.

It's his defending, though, that has slumped a little of late. The oppo get a bit more room than is ideal.

Don't get me wrong, there is a quality player in there, but both aspects of his game would need to improve to become championship standard, for me.

We might not have the finances to pay him so as the Honey monster says..........."tell him about the money, Ronnie"

Im all for any player that can strengthen the team and also fit in with the rest of the squad , but really PB its the midfield that really needs strengthening ,seems to me looking at the names in the squad we have plenty of defenders and attackers, but midfield leaves a lot to be desired,i believe Demetriou could be a decent midfield payer, well he is for me in my football manager anyway.:hilarious:
