Really? Really? Relegation playing pretty football trumps "ugly" success? This club's survival depends on us climbing the leagues, and you would prefer entertainment? I think that's bollocks!

Yes, to me that isn't football. I enjoyed the football we played in our relegation season, the mistakes were frustrating and the relegation disappointing, but I went to every game looking forward to it. You have put it in a very black and white way and expanded on I so it has become more than I was actually saying. I was talking one season and id rather us try to play football and fail than hoofball, there is no rule that says you will fail playing football so I'd rather try to provide entertainment and results. The odd relegation may happen trying to play football, but id rather reach for the stars than have a consistent boring manager keeping us mid table league 1

That doesn't make it anything other than your opinion. If you would have shown me a list of times where Brush had made decisions on team selection, transfer targets etc. then you might have a point, but to tell me to look at where their careers have gone since doesn't prove anything.

If anything it proves the opposite. Paul Brush was manager of Leyton Orient before he got sacked and joined Tilly as his assistant. If he was the brains of the outfit how come he hasn't managed another club since?
There are quite a few excellent coaches/tacticians who lack the all round persona to be a really successful manager-Peter Taylor and Steve McClaren spring to mind.I think Paul Brush might fall into that category.

He only seems to have played 4 and a half league games.

Given that he's conceded 10 goals in that time, and from what we saw of him, I wouldn't have thought it was his job for long.
I watched him concede 3 at Orient last Monday-he was totally blameless and made a number of excellent saves.

Cracking appointment for Yeovil. I'd imagine they've got a few top earners on Championship wages that they'll be looking to offload, so I can see it being a big rebuilding job. At this level there's no one better to do that than Luggy. If he could chuck us Sokolik on the cheap and keep his mitts off any of our lot, I'd love him even more.

Wouldn't be surprised to see him come in for Jack Payne on a season long loan if we go up or if Phil gets his wish and signs another 27 midfielders in the summer.

my main problem with Sturrock wasn't just the hoofball, it was hoofball to Eastwood and Benyon up front! That, THAT, was what drove me mad. watching Neil Harris play for us was great, like poetry, and Dickinson was alright but to play long ball to two tiny strikers against giant centre backs was stupid, no two ways about it

Rubbish! Bar the 3-0 win v Walsall we were terrible for the entire 2nd half of that season, a lot of players (perhaps understandably) had given up. There certainly wasn't a lot of good football played, if you we're looking forward to watching us lose week after week I'd suggest you're a masochist, or have a bad memory!

The answer to why Brush isn't a manager now (or hasn't been since he left Orient) is simply because he didn't enjoy management and has had no desire to take on the responsibility after a fairly brutal spell in charge at Orient. Tilly and Brush was a real team, neither could do it on their own and neither wanted to.

Lets not compare Sturrock with Tilson, lets just say that they both did superb jobs at the time and I for one wish them both well.

I certainly hope Paul Sturrock would get a very warm reception at RH next season if we're still in L2. Not many managers would have taken the job when he did and kept us in the league. I think sometimes people don't appreciate what an acheivement that was because we were mid-table most of that season & never really looked in danger. Maybe if we'd had a last day nerve-racking escape by goal-difference it might have hit home what he did for us. I mean, look at Bristol Rovers, or Tranmere this year. Both had decent squads in their L2 relegation seasons (ok, Tranmere could escape but you catch my drift) and look what happened. We had no players & no money when he took over a couple of weeks before the first game, but Luggy kept us competitive all season. Bloody miracle if you ask me. which you didn't. So I'll shut up now :zip:

Great post. I think there are a lot of Blues fans who don't appreciate what Luggy did for us in that season. If we had gone out of the League it would have been very hard to comeback as the likes of Lincoln and Wrexham have found. I am sure he will get a fantastic reception when he comesback to Roots Hall.

Held two trialist matches yesterday that were open to fans to come and watch for free, 30 players on trial played. Fans even being asked to rate players and vote for them.

Anyone know if PS will be there tomorrow?
Last time out at Green Man seeing him arrive and being escorted to Wembley was brilliant.
I for one will be thinking of him tomorrow whatever the result.
Great man treated shabbily by the club but not the supporters.
Anyone able to find out if he has been invited by club or fans?

Why this thread. Paul Sturrock was very likeable, but he is yesterdays man.Now manager of Yeovil and they are his baby.A stupid, stupid thread.

I think I agree with you....last time was slightly different as he'd literally just left and it was his team.

But it's now 2 years on....do we roll out all the other ex playing and backroom staff too? Anyone know if Michael Ricketts is on twitter?
